What EMIGAN 5MG is used for?

It is used to treat:

  • allergic conditions such as hay fever, rashes (nettle rash or hives)
  • adults with difficult sleeping (insomnia), reduce awareness, to feel relaxed before an operation

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic or hypersensitive to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have difficulty breathing, wheezing, tightness in the chest (asthma) or an infection in your lungs (bronchitis)
  • have epilepsy
  • have any serious heart problems
  • have liver or kidney problems
  • have a stomach blockage or difficulty passing urine
  • have hearing problems
  • have increased pressure in the eye (narrow angle glaucoma)
  • have or had viral illness (Reye’s Syndrome)
  • This medicine should not be taken two weeks before birth and breast-feeding as small amounts may pass into mother’s milk
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • Consult your doctor for advice before giving this medicine to your children
  • Do not drive or operate any machines while taking this medicine, it may cause drowsiness, dizziness or confusion

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • drugs used to treat depression
  • drugs used for irritable bowel syndrome, asthma or weak bladder
  • diazepam, zolpidem (used to help you to sleep or feel more relaxed)
  • aspirin (used for arthritis and pain in your joints)
  • medicines for high blood pressure
  • medicines for fits (epilepsy)
  • medicines for diabetes
  • This medicine will be given to you by a doctor or nurse
  • It is usually given by a deep injection into a muscle and a slow injection into the vein

If you receive more EMIGAN 5MG

  • It is unlikely that your doctor or nurse will give you too much medicine
  • Your doctor or nurse will be monitoring your progress and checking the medicine that you are given. Always ask if you are not sure why you are getting a dose of medicine
  • Symptoms of overdose: excitation, moving unsteadily or stumbling, uncontrolled writhing movements especially of the hands or feet, hallucinations, loss of consciousness, uneven heartbeat and breathing difficulties, sleepiness or drowsiness

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

  • allergic reaction: rash, swallowing or breathing problems, swelling of your lips, face, throat or tongue
  • liver problems (eyes or skin to go yellow)
  • muscle stiffness or shaking, unable to control some muscles in head or face
  • unusual movements of the tongue, facial muscle spasms, rolling eyes and trembling
  • very fast, uneven or forceful heartbeat (palpitations), irregular heartbeat
  • tiredness, drowsiness or sleepiness, disorientation, having nightmares, headaches, restlessness
  • in children: over-active behaviour
  • dry mouth, blurred vision or unable to pass urine
  • loss of appetite (anorexia), indigestion
  • faint (hypotension)
  • confusion (elder)
