INTRODUCTION

EDAFIL 20MG TABLET contains Vardenafil which belongs to the group of medicines called Phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors. EDAFIL 20MG TABLET is used to treat erectile dysfunction in adult men, which is a condition that occurs when men can’t get/keep an erection firm during sexual intercourse.

EDAFIL 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Vardenafil. It is also not recommended for use in patients who recently have/had stroke, low blood pressure, degenerative eye disease (such as retinitis pigmentosa), severe heart disease (such as heart attack), and/or severe liver disease. The medicine is also not recommended for use in patients undergoing kidney dialysis.

Before taking EDAFIL 20MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have a disease that affects shape of the penis (such as angulation, Peyronie’s disease, cavernosal fibrosis), and/or suffer from priapism (illness that cause erectile dysfunction), stomach ulcers (gastric/peptic ulcers)/bleeding disorders (such as haemophilia).

EDAFIL 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women since the medicine is intended to be used only in men.

EDAFIL 20MG TABLET is also not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) since the medicine is intended to be used only in adult men. It is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years/above) after consulting the doctor.

The most common side-effects of using EDAFIL 20MG TABLET are headache, dizziness, flushing, blocked/runny nose, and/or indigestion. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

HOW EDAFIL 20MG TABLET WORKS

EDAFIL 20MG TABLET works by preventing the action of phosphodiesterase-5 (chemical present in the blood vessel wall) which cause relaxation of blood vessels and improves blood flow to the penis resulting in firm penile erection and preventing the occurrence of erectile dysfunction during sexual intercourse in affected individuals. 

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take EDAFIL 20MG TABLET as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, disease condition and body weight.

SIDE EFFECTS OF EDAFIL 20MG TABLET

COMMON

  • headache
  • dizziness
  • flushing
  • blocked/runny nose
  • indigestion

UNCOMMON

  • swelling of skin and mucous tissue (including swollen face, lips or throat)
  • sleep disorders
  • numbness and impaired perception of touch
  • sleepiness
  • effects on vision, redness of eye, effects on colour vision, eye pain/discomfort, light sensitivity
  • spinning sensation, ringing in the ears
  • fast/racing heartbeat
  • breathlessness, stuffy nose
  • acid reflux, gastritis (inflammation of stomach), abdominal pain, diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea, dry mouth
  • rash, reddened skin
  • back/muscle pain, muscle stiffness
  • prolonged erections
  • malaise (general discomfort)

RARE

  • inflammation of the eyes (conjunctivitis)
  • allergic reaction
  • anxiety, fainting
  • amnesia (loss of memory)
  • seizure
  • increase pressure in the eye (glaucoma), increased lacrimation
  • effects on the heart such as heart attack, altered heartbeat, angina
  • high/low blood pressure
  • nosebleed
  • skin sensitivity towards sunlight
  • painful erections
  • chest pain
  • temporary decrease of blood flow to parts of brain

Stop taking EDAFIL 20MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side-effects:

  • partial, sudden, temporary/permanent decrease or loss of vision in one/both eyes

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

If EDAFIL 20MG TABLET causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of taking EDAFIL 20MG TABLET. If it lasts more than a week or becomes severe, then consult and inform your doctor.

Dizziness:

Try to rest and get enough sleep. Try to avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you feel dizzy. Limit consumption of alcohol, as it can aggravate dizziness. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.

Indigestion:

Try to have smaller and more frequent meals and drink slowly. Reduce consumption of coffee, cola, tea, or alcohol and lose weight if you are obese.  Try to avoid smoking and don’t have rich, fatty or spicy foods. Consult your doctor and inform if the symptom does not improve.

Nausea and vomiting:

Take EDAFIL 20MG TABLET with/just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich/spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, and drink slowly in between meals. Consult your doctor if the condition worsens.

Dry mouth:

Try to drink plenty of cold water and sip on cold unsweetened drinks and use lip balm if your lips are dry. Brush your teeth twice a day and use mouthwash. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

EDAFIL 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use pregnant women as the medicine is intended to be used only in men.

BREASTFEEDING

EDAFIL 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use breastfeeding women as the medicine is intended to be used only in men.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or the vision is affected after taking EDAFIL 20MG TABLET.

ALCOHOL

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking EDAFIL 20MG TABLET as it may worsens erection dysfunction.

KIDNEY

EDAFIL 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients undergoing kidney dialysis. Consult your doctor before taking EDAFIL 20MG TABLET.

LIVER

EDAFIL 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients suffering from severe liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking EDAFIL 20MG TABLET.

ALLERGY

Do not take EDAFIL 20MG TABLET if you are allergic to Vardenafil, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.

HEART DISEASE

EDAFIL 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients suffering from severe heart disease such as heart attack. It should be used with caution in patients with irregular heartbeat, and/or inherited heart disease. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

OTHERS

EDAFIL 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

  • recently had stroke
  • have/had low blood pressure
  • have a family history of degenerative eye disease such as retinitis pigmentosa
  • have/ever had non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy (loss of vision caused due to damage of optic nerve from insufficient blood supply)

Before taking EDAFIL 20MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

  • have a disease affecting shape of the penis (such as angulation, Peyronie’s disease, cavernosal fibrosis)
  • suffer from priapism (illness that cause erectile dysfunction) due to sickle cell disease, multiple myeloma, leukaemia (blood disorder)
  • have stomach ulcers (gastric/peptic ulcers)
  • have bleeding disorders such as haemophilia

Use in Paediatrics:

EDAFIL 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) as it is intended to be used only in men.

Use in Geriatrics:

EDAFIL 20MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years/above). Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug–Drug Interactions:

Before taking EDAFIL 20MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • medicines used in the treatment of angina (Ex. nitrates, amyl nitrite)
  • medicines used in the treatment of arrythmias (Ex. quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone, sotalol)
  • medicines used in the treatment of HIV (Ex. ritonavir, indinavir)
  • anti-fungal medicines (Ex. ketoconazole, itraconazole)
  • macrolide antibiotics (used to treat bacterial infections) Ex. erythromycin, clarithromycin
  • medicine used to treat high blood pressure and enlargement of the prostate (Ex. doxazosin, prazosin)
  • medicines used to treat pulmonary hypertension (Ex. riociguat)
  • other medicines to treat erectile dysfunction (Ex. sildenafil)

B. Drug–Food Interactions:

Avoid consumption of grapefruit juice while taking EDAFIL 20MG TABLET as it can interfere with the normal effect of the medicine. Avoid heavy/high fat meal while in treatment with EDAFIL 20MG TABLET since it may delay the effect of the medicine.

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of EDAFIL 20MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptom of overdosage is severe back pain.
