EBAZIDE M is a combination of Ebastine and Montelukast which belongs to the group of medicines called H1 receptor blockers and Leukotriene receptor antagonists respectively. It is used to treat seasonal allergic rhinitis.
Allergic rhinitis (also known as hay fever) is an allergic condition caused due to allergens such as pollens, dusts, molds, or flakes of skin from certain animals. It can occur seasonally or year-round and often characterized by inflammation of the inner lining of the nose accompanied by nasal decongestion, repeated sneezing, or a red, watery, and itchy eyes.
Ebastine is a selective H1 receptor blocker and montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist. They both act together and prevent the release of certain chemicals (histamines and leukotriene) in the body that causes inflammation, swelling and narrowing of the nasal tract.
Take EBAZIDE M for the stipulated duration instructed by your doctor. Do not stop taking EBAZIDE M once your symptoms subside during the mid-way of the therapy as it may make your symptoms to reappear. EBAZIDE M is suitable for use in both adults and in adolescents aged above 15 years.
Before taking EBAZIDE M inform your doctor if you have asthma or any other breathing problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems before taking EBAZIDE M as a precaution. Consult your doctor before taking EBAZIDE M if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
EBAZIDE M may cause drowsiness or sleepiness. Therefore, avoid driving or operating any heavy tools or performing activities that requires complete concentration.
Other most common side effects of taking EBAZIDE M are headache, dry mouth, stomach pain, upper respiratory infection, and vomiting. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect worsens. EBAZIDE M effectively controls and prevents the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. It contains two medicines namely, ebastine and montelukast. Ebastine reduces nasal congestion, repeated sneezing, nasal itching, and watery eyes by blocking the release of certain chemicals (histamines) in the nasal tract that triggers the allergic reactions. Montelukast reduces inflammation and swelling of the airways by blocking the release of certain chemicals (leukotriene) in the airways that causes inflammation. Together, they reduce the unpleasant symptoms of allergic rhinitis.
Take EBAZIDE M as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking EBAZIDE M without consulting your doctor even if your symptom subsides.
Stop taking EBAZIDE M and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
Nausea and Vomiting:
Take EBAZIDE M with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if your nausea worsens.
Diarrhea:
Hydrate yourself by drinking plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juices. Consuming ORS can also be beneficial. Do not self-treat diarrhea on your own. Consult your doctor if your diarrhea becomes uncontrollable.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.
EBAZIDE M should be used in pregnant women only if considered necessary by the physician. Your doctor will access your condition and prescribes it to you only if the potential benefits overweigh the risk to the growing fetus. Therefore, inform your doctor before taking EBAZIDE M if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.
It is not known whether EBAZIDE M can pass through breast milk or not. Therefore, it should be used in breast-feeding women only if considered necessary by the physician.
Do not drive or operate any machines if you experience dizziness and drowsiness after taking EBAZIDE M.
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking EBAZIDE M as it could make you feel dizzy or drowsy.
EBAZIDE M should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems (such as renal insufficiency). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
