INTRODUCTION

DOXY C CAPSULE contains Doxycycline which belongs to group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used for the treatment of various bacterial infections like that of chest, lung or nose (Ex. bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis), urinary tract (Ex. cystitis, urethritis), skin (Ex. acne), eyes or sexually transmitted diseases (Ex. gonorrhoea, syphilis, chlamydia).

DOXY C CAPSULE is also used to treat fevers associated with louse or tick bites and malaria (when chloroquine is ineffective). DOXY C CAPSULE can also be used to prevent certain infections like scrub typhus (a disease carried by small insects), Rocky Mountain spotted fever, travellers’ diarrhoea, malaria and leptospirosis.

Avoid consumption of alcohol during treatment with DOXY C CAPSULE, as it may reduce the efficacy of this medicine. Before taking DOXY C CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you have myasthenia gravis, systemic lupus erythematosus, liver or kidney problems, porphyria, diarrhea or suspected syphilis.

DOXY C CAPSULE is not recommended for use in women who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breast-feeding. DOXY C CAPSULE should be used in children (8 years of age or less) only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks.

You should avoid exposure to strong sunlight while taking DOXY C CAPSULE as your skin may be more sensitive to sunburn than normal. The most common side effects of taking DOXY C CAPSULE are nausea, vomiting, joint pain, skin rash, fever, headache, etc. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms get worse with time.

FAQs ABOUT DOXY C CAPSULE

Can DOXY C CAPSULE cause diarrhea?

Diarrhea is a common problem caused by DOXY C CAPSULE, which usually ends when the medicine is discontinued. Sometimes after starting the treatment, you might develop watery and bloody stools (with or without stomach cramps and fever) even as late as two or more months after having taken the last dose of DOXY C CAPSULE. If this occurs, you should tell the doctor as soon as possible.

Can DOXY C CAPSULE be used for common cold?

Patients should know that antibacterial drugs including DOXY C CAPSULE should only be used to treat bacterial infections. They should not be used to treat viral infections like the common cold. Consult your doctor for further queries.

Can I stop taking DOXY C CAPSULE if I feel better?

Do not stop taking DOXY C CAPSULE unless your doctor advises you to stop. If you stop taking it early, the infection may return. Take DOXY C CAPSULE for the full time of treatment, even if you begin to feel better.

What if I forget to take a dose of DOXY C CAPSULE?

If you forget to take a dose of DOXY C CAPSULE, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take DOXY C CAPSULE two times to make up for the missed dose. Doubling the dose to make up for a missed dose would not substitute the missing amount but increase the risk of overdosing. Consult your doctor for further queries.

Does DOXY C CAPSULE cause sensitivity to light?

Yes. Photosensitivity (light sensitivity) manifested by a worsening sunburn reaction has been observed in some patients taking DOXY C CAPSULE. Patients prone to be exposed to direct sunlight or ultraviolet light should know that this reaction can occur with DOXY C CAPSULE or similar medicines and treatment should be discontinued at the first evidence of skin redness.
