INTRODUCTION
DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION contains Dopamine which belongs to the group of medicines called Sympathomimetic Agents. It stimulates the heart and improves blood supply to the vital organs such as heart, kidney, brain or gut.
It is used to treat shock (sudden loss of blood supply) and hypotension (low blood pressure) that is caused due to heart attack, open heart surgery, trauma (serious injury), poisoning or kidney failure. It can also restore heart functions in patients suffering from congestive heart failure (heart failure caused due to fluid buildup in the heart).
Before receiving DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have any heart, kidney or liver problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have diabetes, glaucoma, enlarged prostate or thyroid problems.
Patients having an history of circulatory problems (like atherosclerosis, mitral value stenosis, etc.) must be carefully monitored for any changes in skin color or temperature of their fingers or toes after receiving DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION. In case of any changes, they must consult their doctor immediately.
DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION should not be used in patients with severe irregular or fast heartbeat. It should be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women only if it is considered necessary by the physician.
The most common side effects of receiving DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION are irregular heartbeat, changes in blood pressure, dizziness, headache, and difficulty in breathing. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect trouble you. You must also inform your doctor immediately if you experience severe palpitations (racing heartbeat).
USES OF DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION
It is used in adults to treat:
- Shock (sudden decrease in blood flow to the vital organs)
- Hypotension (low blood pressure)
- Congestive Heart failure
HOW DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION WORKS
DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION is a peripheral vasostimulant. It stimulates the heart and relaxes the blood vessels supplying various vital organs (such as heart, kidney, brain and/or gut). This improves blood flow and oxygen supply to these organs which restores heart functions and reduces the risk of other circulatory problems. It also improves blood volume and increases the amount of urine produced by the kidneys.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the vein (intravenously). Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION
COMMON
- irregular, rapid, or slow heart beats
- chest pain, shortness of breath
- signs of decrease in blood pressure (such as feel dizzy or faint, particularly when standing up or getting out of bed)
- nausea or vomiting
- headache, anxiety, tremor (feeling shaky)
- increased urination
- increase in blood sugar levels
UNCOMMON
- mydriasis (dilation of pupil of the eye)
- goose pimples (appearance of small points on the skin because you are cold or frightened)
- high blood pressure
RARE
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects while or after receiving DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION:
- signs of severe allergic reaction (such as sudden itchy skin rash (hives), swelling of
the face, lips, mouth or throat, hands, feet, or ankles, which can cause difficulty in
swallowing or breathing, feeling faint) - signs of poor blood circulation in fingers or toes (such as pain and changes in skin color)
- pain or swelling at the site of injection during or immediately after the injection
- severe palpitation (fast heartbeat)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea and vomiting:
Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if required. Do not consume too much of alcohol. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION should be used in pregnant women only if it is considered necessary by the physician. Your doctor will prescribe it to you only when the expected benefits outweigh the potential risk to the fetus. Therefore, inform your doctor before receiving DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.
BREASTFEEDING
There is no proper information regarding the use of DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION during breastfeeding. Therefore, inform your doctor before receiving it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if you experience dizziness or difficulty in seeing in bright light after receiving DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol before receiving DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION.
KIDNEY
DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney diseases. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.
LIVER
DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with liver diseases. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.
ALLERGY
Do not receive DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION if you are allergic to Dopamine.
HEART DISEASE
DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients who have irregular or fast heartbeats. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.
OTHERS
DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION is not recommended for use if you:
- have a tumor that can increase the blood pressure (Ex. Pheochromocytoma)
- have an overactive thyroid gland
Before receiving DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION, inform your physician if you:
- have diabetes
- have a history of circulatory problems (Ex. Atherosclerosis, Mitral value stenosis)
- have narrow-angle glaucoma (increased pressure in the eyes)
- have benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with urinary retention
Use in pediatrics:
The safety and effectiveness of DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION have not been established in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Therefore, consult your doctor before administration.
Use in geriatrics:
DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years or above). Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before receiving DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION, inform your physician if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:
- general anesthetics (medicines that causes loss of consciousness and sensation) Ex. halothane, isoflurane, cyclopropane, desflurane, enflurane and sevoflurane
- other medicines used to treat heart problems (Ex. reserpine, propranolol, atenolol, prazosin, digoxin, amiodarone, quinidine)
- antidepressants (used to treat depression) Ex. fluoxetine, sertraline, paroxetine, isocarboxazid, selegiline, phenelzine, citalopram, escitalopram and amitriptyline
- phenytoin (a medicine used to treat fits or seizures)
- ergotamine (a medicine used to treat migraine headache)
- guanethidine (a medicine used to treat high blood pressure)
- entacapone (a medicine used to treat Parkinson’s disease)
- doxapram (used as a respiratory stimulant)
- metoclopramide (a medicine used to treat gastro-intestinal motility disorders)
- thyroid hormones (used to treat thyroid deficiencies) Ex. levothyroxine, thyroxine.
Overdosage:
DOPACEF 200MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual side effects.
