INTRODUCTION
DIOF DS SUSPENSION is a combination of Metronidazole and Ofloxacin, which belong to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. DIOF DS SUSPENSION is used to treat different kinds of bacterial and parasitic infections (caused by different kinds of bacteria or parasites), diarrhea (loose, watery stools that occur more often than usual) and systemic infection (an infection that is in the bloodstream).
DIOF DS SUSPENSION should be used with caution in patients with liver problems, kidney problems and heart disease. DIOF DS SUSPENSION is not recommended for use by pregnant or breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.
The most common side effects of DIOF DS SUSPENSION are nausea, headache, sleeplessness, genital itching in women, dizziness, vaginal inflammation, diarrhoea and vomiting. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

HOW DIOF DS SUSPENSION WORKS
DIOF DS SUSPENSION helps to reduce infections caused by different bacteria or parasites, whereas Metronidazole works by inhibiting the protein synthesis in the cells of various bacteria and parasites, which gradually leads to cell death. Ofloxacin works by preventing bacterial growth (DNA replication), which leads to cell death.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Always use DIOF DS SUSPENSION as directed by your physician. Shake well before use. Do not stop using DIOF DS SUSPENSION without informing your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS OF DIOF DS SUSPENSION
COMMON
- nausea

RARE
Stop using DIOF DS SUSPENSION and contact your doctor immediately if you have:
- allergic reaction with symptoms such as swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue, itching, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing
- skin rashes with blistering, peeling or bleeding of the skin around the lips, eyes, mouth, nose and genitals
- serious but very rare side effect is a brain disease (encephalopathy)
- blistering or bleeding of the skin around the eyes, mouth, lips, nose and genitals
- red, scaly widespread rash with bumps under the skin and blisters accompanied by fever
- steven johnson syndrome - severe blistering rash where layers of the skin may peel off
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea / Vomiting:
Take this medicine with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if required. Do not consume alcohol. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Dizziness:
If you feel dizzy, keep your eyes closed sit or lie down. Do not drive or operate machinery. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Diarrhea:
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid taking any medicine on your own for treating diarrhoea. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
DIOF DS SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before using it.
BREASTFEEDING
DIOF DS SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before using it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel sleepy or dizzy or could affect your eyesight after using DIOF DS SUSPENSION. Consult your doctor before using it.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking DIOF DS SUSPENSION because it might cause unpleasant side effects such as nausea, vomiting, hot flushes, stomach pain, very fast or uneven heartbeat and headache. Consult your doctor before using it.
KIDNEY
DIOF DS SUSPENSION should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems and patients undergoing kidney dialysis. Consult your doctor before using it.
LIVER
DIOF DS SUSPENSION should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Consult your doctor before using it.
ALLERGY
Do not take DIOF DS SUSPENSION if you are allergic to metronidazole, ofloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin or norfloxacin or any of the other ingredients in this medicine. Consult your doctor before using it.
LUNGS
DIOF DS SUSPENSION should be used with caution in patients with a lung transplant. Consult your doctor before using it.
HEART DISEASE
DIOF DS SUSPENSION should be used with caution in patients with heart disease. Consult your doctor before using it.
OTHERS
Before using DIOF DS SUSPENSION, inform your doctor if you:
- have a disease of the nervous system
- are on hemodialysis
- have a history of joint problems or rheumatoid arthritis
- are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, seizures, stroke
- have decreased in blood minerals
Use in Pediatrics:
DIOF DS SUSPENSION should be used with caution in children. Consult your doctor before using it.
Use in Geriatrics:
DIOF DS SUSPENSION should be used with caution. Consult your doctor before using it.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking DIOF DS SUSPENSION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines:
- warfarin (anticoagulants)
- lithium (used to treat mental illness)
- phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbitone (used to treat epilepsy)
- 5 fluorouracil, busulfan (used to treat cancer)
- ciclosporin (immunosuppressant)
- disulfiram
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally receive too much of DIOF DS SUSPENSION, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel sleepy or dizzy or if it could affect your eyesight after taking DIOF DS SUSPENSION. Can breast-feeding women take DIOF DS SUSPENSION?
A few clinical trial studies show that DIOF DS SUSPENSION passes through the breast milk from mother to infant while breastfeeding. So, DIOF DS SUSPENSION is not recommended for breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.
I am presently undergoing kidney dialysis. Can I take DIOF DS SUSPENSION?
DIOF DS SUSPENSION should be used with caution in dialysis patients. Since dialysis purifies intoxicants and other materials in the blood, DIOF DS SUSPENSION can also be removed. So, the effect of DIOF DS SUSPENSION might be reduced. It is better to inform your doctor if you are on dialysis and you are taking DIOF DS SUSPENSION.
Does DIOF DS SUSPENSION cause vomiting?
Since vomiting is the most common side effect observed for DIOF DS SUSPENSION, it may cause vomiting. So, eat simple meals and avoid oily or spicy foods and take this medicine with or just after meals. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
How many doses of DIOF DS SUSPENSION can I take in a day?
Take DIOF DS SUSPENSION as advised by your physician. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Your doctor will determine the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.
Does DIOF DS SUSPENSION cause sleeplessness?
Yes, the use of DIOF DS SUSPENSION may cause sleeplessness. DIOF DS SUSPENSION may influence the normal sleep cycle, resulting in reduced sleep compared to normal. So, it is better to make your surroundings comfortable, which can have a positive influence on sleep (like the room light being dimmed or minimizing external noises).
