What is DILTER?

What DILTER is used for?

  • It is used in the treatment of angina (chest pain) and mild to moderate high blood pressure

Tell your doctor before taking this medicine, if you

  • are allergic to Diltiazem or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • are an alcoholic
  • have very low blood pressure
  • have heart rhythm disorders in the absence of a pacemaker
  • have severe heart failure with fluid in the lungs
  • have liver or kidney disease
  • have high blood sugar levels
  • Do not take DILTER if you are pregnant, likely to become pregnant or are breastfeeding. Ask your doctor for advice before taking any medicine



Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines such as,

  • antifungals
  • warfarin used to prevent blood clots
  • lithium, benzodiazepines, imipramine used to treat mental problems
  • flecainide, quinidine, propafenone used to treat heart problem
  • terfenadine used to treat allergies
  • sleeping pills
  • other blood pressure medications: alpha antagonists, beta antagonists;
  • amiodarone, digoxin, digitalis, ivabradine
  • anaesthetics
  • medications used to control seizures such as phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine
  • statins - cholesterol lowering medications
  • theophylline used for breathing problems
  • erythromycin, rifampin used as antibiotic
  • multivitamins with minerals (calcium-containing products)
  • corticosteroids, methylprednisolone to treat inflammation
  • dantrolene used for severe muscle spasms or severe fever
  • acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) or antiplatelet drugs
  • x-ray contrast agents
  • Always take DILTER exactly as your doctor has told you
  • Swallow this medicine whole with a glass of water
  • Do not chew or crush this medicine
  • This medicine should be taken once daily at bedtime
  • It is taken with or without food, but should be so taken consistently
  • It is important to take DILTER at night, at approximately the same time

If you take more DILTER

  • If you take more DILTER, call your doctor or hospital straight away

If you forget to take DILTER

  • If a dose of this medication has been missed, it should be taken as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to the regular dosing schedule

If you stop taking DILTER

  • You should not stop taking these unless your doctor tells you to. If you want to stop taking, discuss this with your doctor first
Very Rare

Like all medicines, DILTER can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

  • peripheral edema (swelling of the ankles)
  • inflammation in the nose and throat
  • respiratory tract infection
  • racing heartbeat or low heartbeat
  • rash
  • headache, dizziness, malaise
  • nausea
  • flushing (facial redness) or feeling unusually warm
  • unusual tiredness and weakness
  • stomach upset
