INTRODUCTION

DIASDAC MR TABLET is a combination of Etodolac and Thiocolchicoside which belongs to the group of medicines called Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and Skeletal muscle relaxants. It is used in the treatment of osteoarthritis (the most common form of arthritis that occurs when cartilage wears down over time resulting in joint pain and stiffness), painful syndromes of the vertebral column(lower back and neck pain along with muscle stiffness that restricts range of motion and normal posture), rheumatism not related to joint (pain and discomfort are seen but it does damage the joints for long term), painful and muscle spasms due to injury and surgical interventions in adults.

DIASDAC MR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having heart failure, peptic ulcer, relaxed paralysis, muscle hypotonia, undergone by-pass and cardiac surgery, allergic to aspirin or other NSAIDs drugs, pregnant women, breastfeeding women, children and adolescents (below 16 years of age).

Before using DIASDAC MR TABLET, inform your doctor if you have any history of asthma, epilepsy, fluid retention, high blood pressure or impaired heart, kidney or liver function. It should be used with caution in elderly patients. The most common side effects of DIASDAC MR TABLET are dizziness, stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. If any of these symptoms worsen, consult your doctor.

USES OF DIASDAC MR TABLET

  • Treats osteoarthritis, painful syndromes of the vertebral column, rheumatism not related to joint, painful muscle spasms in acute spinal pathologies and pain following trauma and surgical interventions

HOW DIASDAC MR TABLET WORKS

DIASDAC MR TABLET is a combination of Etodolac, which works by blocking the release of some chemical substances in the body that are responsible for the pain and inflammation at the site of injury and thiocolchicoside, a skeletal muscle relaxant that modifies the action of a chemical substance produced in the brain with anti-inflammatory and pain-reducing properties to work in the brain and spinal cord. This collective action is useful in providing relief from pain and muscle stiffness or spasm.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take DIASDAC MR TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. The correct dose will be decided by the doctor based on the age, body weight and disease condition. Do not take more than the recommended dosage, as it may lead to side effects.

SIDE EFFECTS OF DIASDAC MR TABLET

COMMON

  • fatigue
  • stomach pain
  • dizziness
  • anxiety and depression
  • blurred vision
  • ringing sensation in ears
  • indigestion
  • diarrhoea
  • flatulence, constipation

RARE

Stop taking DIASDAC MR TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • signs of allergic reactions (extensive skin rash with peeling or blistering of the skin and continuous itching; swelling of the face, lips, mouth or tongue leading to wheezing, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath)
  • signs of gastrointestinal ulceration and haemorrhage (passing blood in your stools or black tarry stools and vomiting any blood or dark particles that look like coffee grounds)
  • signs of liver failure (yellowing of the eyes or skin, abdominal pain and swelling)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Dizziness:

Sit down or lie down slowly when you are feeling dizzy. Take some time to rest and drink plenty of water. Avoid coffee and other carbonated drinks. If there is no improvement in your symptoms, contact your doctor.

Nausea or vomiting:

Take DIASDAC MR TABLET along with or just after, meals. Stick to simple meals and avoid eating oil-rich or spicy foods. If there is no improvement in the symptom, contact your doctor.

Diarrhoea:

Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice, to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.

Stomach pain:

Take some rest to relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and more frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. If there is no improvement in the symptom, consult your doctor.

Constipation:

Eat a lot of fibre-rich foods, such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly. If there is no improvement in the symptom, consult your doctor.

Flatulence:

Consume smaller, more frequent meals; drink plenty of water; and take short walks after meals. If there is no improvement in the symptom, consult your doctor.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

DIASDAC MR TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women or women trying to become pregnant. Consult your doctor for advice.

BREASTFEEDING

DIASDAC MR TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor for advice.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy, drowsy, tired or abnormal vision after taking DIASDAC MR TABLET.

ALCOHOL

Avoid alcohol intake while taking DIASDAC MR TABLET.

KIDNEY

DIASDAC MR TABLET should be used with caution in patients with impaired kidney function. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER

DIASDAC MR TABLET should be used with caution in patients with impaired liver function. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY

Do not take DIASDAC MR TABLET if you are hypersensitive to etodolac and/or compounds containing thiocolchicoside and patients developing allergic reactions during treatment with aspirin or other NSAID drugs.

LUNGS

DIASDAC MR TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with a history of bronchial asthma rhinitis or urticaria. Consult your doctor for advice.

HEART DISEASE

DIASDAC MR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with heart failure, immediately before or after bypass and cardiac surgery. It should be used with caution in patients with impaired heart function, fluid retention and high blood pressure. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

DIASDAC MR TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

  • have or had peptic ulcers (including gastrointestinal haemorrhage due to other NSAIDs drugs)
  • have relaxed paralysis
  • have muscle hypotonia

Before taking DIASDAC MR TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

  • have epilepsy

Use in Pediatrics:

DIASDAC MR TABLET is generally not recommended for use in children and adolescents (below 16 years of age). Consult your doctor for advice.

Use in Geriatrics:

DIASDAC MR TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor for advice.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking DIASDAC MR TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • other pain-relieving medicines (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, phenylbutazone)
  • warfarin (a medicine used to prevent blood clots)
  • cyclosporin (a medicine used following organ transplantation)
  • digoxin, frusemide (a medicine used for treating heart problems)
  • lithium (a medicine used for treating mental illness)
  • probenecid (a medicine used in the treatment of gout)
  • methotrexate (a medicine used to treat rheumatoid arthritis)
  • tacrolimus, prednisolone, zidovudine (a medicine used to suppress the immune system)
  • ciprofloxacin (a medicine used in treating bacterial infections)
  • mifepristone (a medicine used to induce abortion)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of DIASDAC MR TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are lethargy, sleepiness, nausea, vomiting and stomach pain.
