What DACOTIN 100MG is used for?

It is used:

  • to treat metastatic (advanced) cancer of the colon (large bowel) or rectum (back passage) or as additional treatment following surgery to remove a tumor (growth) in the colon

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have liver, kidney problems
  • have or had heart disorders such as an abnormal electrical signal called prolongation of the QT interval, an irregular heartbeat, or a family history of heart problems
  • have an unpleasant sensation in the throat, when swallowing
  • have a sensation of shortness of breath
  • have nerve problems in your hands or feet, such as numbness or tingling, or decreased sensations in your hands
  • have headache, altered mental functioning, seizures and abnormal vision from blurriness to vision loss
  • have sore lips or mouth ulcers (mucositis/stomatitis)
  • have unexplained respiratory symptoms such as cough, or any difficulties in breathing
  • develop an extreme tiredness, where you pass little or no urine (symptoms of acute renal failure)
  • experience unexpected bleeding or bruising (disseminated intravascular coagulation)
  • have abdominal pain
  • This medicine not recommended that you become pregnant during treatment with oxaliplatin and must use an effective method of contraception. Female patients should take appropriate contraceptive measures during and after cessation of therapy continuing for 4 months
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • Do not drive or operate any machines as it may cause the risk of dizziness, nausea, vomiting and other neurological symptoms, vision problems that may affect walking and balance

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you use, including prescription and non-prescription medicines and herbal supplements.

  • The medicine will be given by a doctor or nurse 
  • It is given by slow injection into one of your veins (an intravenous infusion)

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very Rare
  • stomatitis, mucositis (sore lips or mouth ulcers)
  • low platelet count, abnormal bruising (thrombocytopenia)
  • unexplained respiratory symptoms such as dry cough, difficulties in breathing or crackles
  • febrile neutropenia
  • rash, itching or hives on the skin, difficulties in swallowing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body, shortness of breath, wheezing or trouble breathing, extreme tiredness, unpleasant sensation in the throat
  • shock-like sensation passing down the arms or trunk when the neck is flexed
  • diarrhoea, mild nausea, vomiting
  • sensation of discomfort close to or at the injection site during the infusion
  • fever, rigors (tremors), mild or severe tiredness, body pain
  • weight changes, loss or lack of appetite, constipation
  • swelling of the nerves to the muscles, neck stiffness, abnormal tongue sensation possibly altering speech
  • abnormal bleeding including nose bleeds
  • indigestion and heart burn, hiccups, flushing and dizziness
  • increased sweating and nail disorders, flaking skin
  • chest pain
  • joint or bone or stomach pain
  • pain on passing urine and changes in kidney function, changes of frequency of urination, dehydration
  • blood in the urine/stools
  • visual problems
  • serious infection of the blood (sepsis)
  • blockage or swelling of the bowel
  • nervousness
  • unexpected bleeding or bruising due to widespread blood clots throughout the small blood vessels of the body (disseminated intravascular coagulation)
  • loss of hearing
  • vascular disorders of the liver (symptoms include abdominal pain and swelling, weight gain and tissue swelling of the feet, ankles or other parts of the body)
