INTRODUCTION

CORAFIL 10 contains Nicorandil which belongs to a group of medicines known as potassium-channel activators which works by increasing the blood flow through the blood vessels of the heart. It is used to prevent and treat long-term chest pain (angina). Angina is a type of chest pain often described as squeezing, pressure, heaviness, tightness or pain in your chest due to reduced blood flow to the heart. CORAFIL 10 used to treat angina and also reduces acute coronary events in high risk stable angina patients.

Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have low blood pressure or heart problems. Do not take any medicines for erectile dysfunction. It is not recommended for use in children and breastfeeding women. Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The dose you take will depend on your age, other medications you are taking and whether you have any kidney or liver problems. The common side effects are headache, dizziness, weakness and irregular heartbeat.

HOW CORAFIL 10 WORKS

CORAFIL 10 works by increasing the blood flow through the blood vessels of the heart.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take this medicine according to the dose and frequency as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break the medicine. It may be taken with or without food.

SIDE EFFECTS OF CORAFIL 10

COMMON

  • increased or fast heart-beat
  • headache
  • dizziness
  • weakness
  • feeling sick or being sick
  • flushing of the skin

RARE

  • blood in your stools or vomit
  • ulcers, bleeding of the back passage
  • skin rashes

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

Feeling sick (nausea) or indigestion:

Stick to simple normal meals and do not eat rich or spicy foods.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

CORAFIL 10 should be used with caution in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING

CORAFIL 10 is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

CORAFIL 10 may cause dizziness. Do not drive or handle any machines while taking this medicine.

ALCOHOL

Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine.

ALLERGY

Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Nicorandil or any ingredients of this medicine.

HEART DISEASE

CORAFIL 10 is not recommended in patients with active heart diseases. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

OTHERS

Tell your doctor if you had or have a condition such as:

  • low blood pressure
  • pulmonary oedema
  • mouth ulcers

INTERACTIONS

Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following:

  • sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil (used for impotence)
  • hydralazine, minoxidil or nitroprusside (vasodilators)
  • medicines for high blood pressure, depression
  • prednisolone
