What is the use of COLISTOP?
COLISTOP is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the gut in infants and in children. It acts by killing the susceptible bacteria that causes infection.
What COLISTOP does to my child?
COLISTOP kills the susceptible bacteria in your child that causes infection. It acts by disrupting the composition (lipids and protein) of the bacterial cell membrane and enters the bacterial cell. This causes the contents of the bacterial cell to leak out which subsequently leads to bacterial killing. It may also inactivate the effects of toxins produced by the harmful bacteria.
What are the side effects of COLISTOP?
The most common side effects of receiving COLISTOP are stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, or dizziness. Contact your doctor if any of these side effect worsens in your child.
How to use COLISTOP?
Use COLISTOP as advised by your physician. Reconstitute the medicine with the sterile water given along with the package or with boiled cooled water before administration. Close the bottle tightly and shake the mixture vigorously for at least 10-15 minutes until its forms a uniform mixture. Measure the medicine using the measuring cup given along with the package and administer it to your child. Shake the medicine well before each use.
Can COLISTOP be used in children?
Yes. COLISTOP can be used in infants and in children if prescribed by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor before using.
What precautions do I need to follow while taking COLISTOP?
Before starting the therapy with COLISTOP, inform your doctor if your child has any kidney problems. Your doctor would prescribe a low dose of colistin to your child and constantly monitor their kidney functions to avoid the risk of side effects. You must also inform your doctor that if your child has any inherited blood or muscle disorders before starting the therapy with COLISTOP. Do not give COLISTOP to your child if your child is allergic to any of its ingredients.
What medicines should I avoid while taking COLISTOP?
Avoid giving other antibiotics to your child along with COLISTOP without consulting your doctor. Concomitant use of antibiotics along with COLISTOP may potentiate the effects of COLISTOP and may lead to unwanted side effects.
Is COLISTOP safe?
COLISTOP is generally safe when used in the doses recommended by your doctor. Therefore, carefully follow your doctor's instructions and inform your doctor immediately if your child experiences any unpleasant side effects after taking COLISTOP.
Can I take COLISTOP during pregnancy?

What should I do if I forget to take a dose of COLISTOP?
If a dose of COLISTOP is missed, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is time for the next dose of COLISTOP, skip the missed dose and give the next one regularly to your child. Do not give a double dose of COLISTOP to compensate the missed ones.
