INTRODUCTION

CLONEON 150MG INJECTION contains Clonidine which belongs to group of medicines called Antihypertensives. CLONEON 150MG INJECTION is used to treat hypertensive crisis (sudden severe increase in blood pressure) in affected individuals.

CLONEON 150MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients allergic to clonidine. It is also not recommended for use in patients with heart problems (such as sick sinus syndrome, second/third degree heart block).  

Before receiving CLONEON 150MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have Raynaud’s disease (condition marked decreased circulation to the fingers), other blood circulation problems, depression, constipation, kidney problems (such as renal insufficiency), and/or liver disease.  

CLONEON 150MG INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant women only if it is clearly necessary. The medicine is not recommended for use in breast-feeding women.

CLONEON 150MG INJECTION is also not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) and is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years/above) after consulting the doctor.  

The most common side effects of receiving CLONEON 150MG INJECTION are dizziness, dry mouth, depression, sleep disorder, headache, constipation, and/or fatigue. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects worsen.

HOW CLONEON 150MG INJECTION WORKS

CLONEON 150MG INJECTION works by reducing sympathetic outflow from central nervous system that causes blood vessels to relax which results in heart to pump blood more efficiently around the body leading to decreased blood pressure thus treating high blood pressure in hypertensive crisis in affected individuals.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

CLONEON 150MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous injection. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF CLONEON 150MG INJECTION

COMMON

  • dizziness
  • more relaxed than usual (sedation)
  • feeling dizzy when you stand up (because your blood pressure has fallen sharply)
  • dry mouth
  • depression
  • sleep disorder
  • headache
  • constipation
  • nausea
  • pain below the ear (from the salivary gland)
  • vomiting
  • erectile dysfunction
  • fatigue (weakness)

UNCOMMON

  • problems with understanding what is happening around you, hallucinations, nightmares
  • burning/prickling sensation in arms/hands/legs
  • hands and feet feeling different (altered sensation)
  • unusually slow heartbeat
  • signs of raynaud’s phenomenon (condition marked by decreased blood flow to the fingers)
  • itching, rash, nettle rash
  • feeling of discomfort and fatigue (weakness)

RARE

  • breast growth in men
  • dry eyes
  • heart block
  • drying out of the lining of the nose
  • signs of pseudo-obstruction of the large bowel such as colicky pain, vomiting and constipation
  • hair loss
  • increase in your blood sugar

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Dizziness:

Try to rest and get enough sleep. Try to avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you feel dizzy. Limit consumption of alcohol, as it can aggravate dizziness. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.

Headache:

If CLONEON 150MG INJECTION causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of receiving CLONEON 150MG INJECTION. If it lasts more than a week or severe, inform your doctor.

Constipation:

Try to eat high-fiber foods such as vegetables, cereals, fresh fruit, and drink plenty of water. Involve in regular exercise (going for a daily walk or run) and if this does not help, consult and inform your doctor for receiving alternate treatments for constipation.

Nausea/ Vomiting:  

Try to take CLONEON 150MG INJECTION with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if symptom gets worse.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

CLONEON 150MG INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant women only if it is considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before receiving CLONEON 150MG INJECTION.

BREASTFEEDING

CLONEON 150MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in breast feeding women. Consult your doctor before receiving CLONEON 150MG INJECTION.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel drowsy, dizzy, and/or have some disturbances of vision after receiving CLONEON 150MG INJECTION.

ALCOHOL

Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving CLONEON 150MG INJECTION since it may alter the effect of the medicine.

KIDNEY

CLONEON 150MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems such as renal insufficiency. Consult your doctor before receiving CLONEON 150MG INJECTION.

LIVER

CLONEON 150MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before receiving CLONEON 150MG INJECTION.

ALLERGY

Do not receive CLONEON 150MG INJECTION if you are allergic to clonidine, and/or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

HEART DISEASE

CLONEON 150MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with heart problems such as sick sinus syndrome (that cause slow heart rate), and/or second/third degree heart block. It should be used with caution in patients with other heart problems such as heart failure. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

OTHERS

Before receiving CLONEON 150MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you:

  • suffer from Raynaud’s disease (condition marked by decreased blood flow to the fingers)
  • other blood circulation problems including circulation to the brain
  • have/ ever had depression
  • suffer from polyneuropathy (simultaneous malfunction of peripheral nerves)
  • have pheochromocytoma (hormone secreting tumor of adrenal gland)
  • wear contact lenses
  • have constipation.

Use in Pediatrics:

CLONEON 150MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

Use in Geriatrics:

CLONEON 150MG INJECTION should be received with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years /above).  Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug - Drug interactions:

Before receiving CLONEON 150MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (used to treat pain and reduce fever) Ex. ibuprofen
  • tricyclic antidepressants (used to treat depression) Ex. amitriptyline, imipramine
  • neuroleptics/ antipsychotics (used for severe mental illness) Ex. chlorpromazine, haloperidol
  • beta blockers (used to treat hypertension) Ex. atenolol
  • water tablets/diuretics (used to treat hypertension) Ex. frusemide
  • alpha blockers (used for prostate problems in men) Ex. prazosin, doxazosin
  • mirtazapine (used to treat depression)
  • vasodilators (medicines used to lower blood pressure) Ex. diazoxide, sodium nitroprusside
  • calcium antagonists (used to treat hypertension) Ex. verapamil, diltiazem hydrochloride
  • ACE inhibitors (used to treat hypertension) Ex. captopril, lisinopril
  • digitalis glycoside (used to treat heart disorders) Ex. digoxin

Over dosage:

CLONEON 150MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms such as generalized sympathetic depression, pupillary constriction (narrowing of eye pupil), lethargy, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, hypothermia (severe drop in body temperature), excess sleepiness, respiratory depression including apnea (potentially serious sleep disorder), and/or coma.
