CLAVIDUR XR TABLET is a combination of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid, which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used for treating bacterial infections including community-acquired pneumonia and acute bacterial sinusitis.
Community-acquired pneumonia is an infection that leads to the inflammation of the air sacs involving one or both lungs. It is characterized by the symptoms such as chest pain, cough with phlegm, fatigue, fever, sweating, and chills. Acute bacterial sinusitis is a condition occurring due to infection and inflammation in the nasal cavity and sinuses. It is characterized by symptoms such as a stuffy nose, difficulty breathing through your nose, pain and pressure around your eyes, nose, or/and forehead.
Do not take CLAVIDUR XR TABLET if you have a history of penicillin or cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction upon taking amoxicillin-clavulanate. Before taking CLAVIDUR XR TABLET, inform your doctor if you have a hepatic impairment, renal impairment or mononucleosis. It should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women. It should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged 15 years or below) and elderly patients (aged 65 years or above). Consult your doctor before taking it.
The common side effects associated with the use of CLAVIDUR XR TABLET are diarrhoea, vaginal mycosis, nausea, or loose stools. Contact your doctor immediately if any of your symptoms get worse or persist.

CLAVIDUR XR TABLET helps in treating bacterial infection where amoxicillin is a penicillin that works by inhibiting the enzymes that help in the synthesis of integral structural components of the bacterial cell wall whereas clavulanic acid is a beta-lactam (structurally related to penicillin) that works by inactivating an enzyme, namely beta-lactamase, thereby preventing the inactivation of amoxicillin.
Take CLAVIDUR XR TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the tablet with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.
Stop taking CLAVIDUR XR TABLET and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
Diarrhoea
Drink lots of fluids, such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to treat diarrhoea and consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Nausea
Try to take CLAVIDUR XR TABLET with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
CLAVIDUR XR TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women only if it is considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking it.

It may also cause interstitial nephritis (inflammation in kidney tissue) or crystalluria resulting in renal failure in few cases.
