INTRODUCTION

CILIDIN TRIO 20MG TABLET is a combination of Chlorthalidone, Cilnidipine and Olmesartan which belongs to the group of medicines called Antihypertensive agents. It is used to treat essential hypertension.

Hypertension also known as high or raised blood pressure, is a condition in which the blood vessels have persistently raised pressure. Blood is carried from the heart to all parts of the body in the vessels. Each time the heart beats, it pumps blood into the vessels.

Blood pressure is created by the force of blood pushing against the walls of blood vessels (arteries) as it is pumped by the heart. The higher the pressure, the harder the heart has to pump.

During the course of treatment your doctor might regularly monitor your blood pressure, kidney function and electrolyte balance at regular intervals to avoid any untoward side effects.

CILIDIN TRIO 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with liver, kidney, and heart disease. Consult your doctor before taking.

CILIDIN TRIO 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use during pregnancy. It is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breastmilk to the baby. Consult your doctor for advice.

Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients is not established. Consult your doctor before taking. CILIDIN TRIO 20MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients of 65 years and above. Consult your doctor for advice.

The most common side effects of taking CILIDIN TRIO 20MG TABLET are dizziness, nausea, headache, constipation, fever, chills. Consult your doctor if the above-mentioned side effects persists for a longer duration.

HOW CILIDIN TRIO 20MG TABLET WORKS

CILIDIN TRIO 20MG TABLET effectively reduces the blood pressure where Chlorthalidone acts by enhancing excretion of sodium (which is necessary for constriction of blood vessels) and water from the body causing the blood vessels to relax and Cilnidipine makes the blood vessels to relax and thus lowers the blood pressure by blocking the calcium entry in blood vessels which is necessary for the smooth muscle contraction. Olmesartan acts by blocking the effects of Angiotensin II (substance produced in your body which causes narrowing of blood vessels).

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take CILIDIN TRIO 20MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow this medicine with a glass of water and do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the right dose and duration depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea or Vomiting:

Take this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks, and drinks. Try to avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, drink slowly in between meals. Consult your doctor for advice.

Constipation:

Eat plenty of fibre rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.

Dizziness

Lie, or sit down immediately when you feel dizzy. If you are feeling a severe episode of dizziness, lie in a dark and quite place with eyes closed. Discuss with your doctor.

Headache:

Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Try to take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee. Massage the scalp or head with mild pressure. Consult your doctor for advice.

A. Drug - Drug interactions:

Before taking CILIDIN TRIO 20MG TABLET inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

• valsartan, captopril, aliskiren (used to lower blood pressure)
• digoxin (medicine used to treat heart failure and abnormal heart rhythm)
• cimetidine (medicine used for stomach ulcer)
• rifampicin (medicine used to treat tuberculosis)
• itraconazole, miconazole (medicines used to treat fungal infections)
• medicines that may increase blood potassium levels such as salt substitutes containing potassium, potassium-sparing diuretics (Ex. amiloride, spironolactone)
• lithium (used to treat mood swings and some types of depression)
• medicines used to treat pain and inflammation (Ex. aspirin, ibuprofen)
• colesevelam (lowers the level of cholesterol in your blood)
• antacids like aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide (used for indigestion, heartburn)

B. Drug - Food interaction:

Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking CILIDIN TRIO 20MG TABLET as it may increase the levels of this medicine n body.

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of CILIDIN TRIO 20MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage includes low blood pressure, dizziness, nausea, sleepiness, and electrolyte disturbances associated with cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat) and muscle stiffness.
