What is Everolimus used for?

Everolimus is used to prevent the rejection of transplanted organ in patients who have undergone a kidney, liver or heart transplant. Transplant rejection occurs when the organ recipient’s immune system attacks the transplanted organ.

Everolimus helps prevent transplant rejection by suppressing the immune system. Everolimus belongs to the group of drugs called anti-rejection medications. Everolimus is used in combination with other medicines to prevent transplant rejection in organ transplant patients. Everolimus may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How to take Everolimus?

The dosage of Everolimus may vary based on the patient’s age, gender, body weight, medical condition and response to treatment. Always follow your physician’s instructions and/or the directions on the prescription drug label.

Swallow the Everolimus tablets whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush or chew the Everolimus tablets.

Always take Everolimus tablets in the same way everyday, either with or without food.

To note:Do not take Everolimus with grapefruit juice.

If your physician has instructed or directed you to take Everolimus medication in a regular schedule and you have missed a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the doses to catch up for the missed dose.

Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose of Everolimus, seek medical attention immediately.
