What CARTIGEN is used for?

  • It is used for the treatment of mild to moderate osteoarthritis of the knee

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:

  • are allergic to glucosamine, sodium chloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have phenylketonuria (an enzyme deficiency condition)
  • are allergic to peanut or soya
  • have kidney or liver problems
  • suffer from diabetes or asthma
  • Do not take CARTIGEN during the first three months of pregnancy
  • If you are trying for a baby, are pregnant or breast-feeding, ask your doctor for advice before taking this or any other medicine
  • CARTIGEN is not recommended for use in children and adolescents
  • CARTIGEN may cause drowsiness or sleepiness. You should not drive or operate machinery until you know how the drug affects you

Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines such as,

  • warfarin (used to prevent blood clotting)
  • tetracyclines (antibiotics)
  • Always take CARTIGEN exactly as your doctor has told you
  • Dissolve the contents of a single sachet in a glass of water and drink once a day, preferably at a meal time

If you take more CARTIGEN

  • If you have taken more medicine than you should, contact your doctor immediately

If you forget to take CARTIGEN

  • If you forget to take a dose, take one as soon as you remember, unless it is nearly time to take the next one. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten one

If you stop taking CARTIGEN

  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless told by your doctor

Like all medicines, CARTIGEN can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

  • difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
  • severe itching of the skin, with a red rash or raised bumps
  • nausea, stomach pain, indigestion, passing wind, diarrhoea, constipation
  • headache, drowsiness, sleepiness
  • skin rashes, including itching and redness
