What CAPTOMER 50MG is used for?

  • It is used to treat cancer of the blood (leukemia) in adults

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have reduced liver function or damage
  • have a genetic condition called TPMT (thiopurine methyltransferase) deficiency
  • have a higher risk of infections and hair loss
  • have a kidney problem
  • have a genetic condition called Lesch-Nyhan Syndrome
  • have had chickenpox, shingles or hepatitis B
  • It is not recommended during pregnancy, particularly in the first trimester (three months) because it may cause damage to the foetus
  • Do not breast-feed when you are taking this medicine
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • Your doctor will calculate and adjust your dose based on your Child’s body weight, results of the blood tests
  • This medicine will not affect your ability to drive or use machines

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • ribavirin (used to treat viral infection)
  • drugs used to treat cancer
  • allopurinol, thiopurinol, oxipurinol or febuxostat (used to treat gout)
  • medicines used to treat bowel diseases
  • warfarin or acenocoumarol (used to thin the blood)
  • live vaccine (flu vaccine, measles vaccine, BCG vaccine)
  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • Swallow the medicine with a glass of water
  • It should not be broken or crushed

If you take more CAPTOMER 50MG

  • If you take more tablets than you should, tell your doctor immediately or go to a hospital straight away

If you forget to take CAPTOMER 50MG

  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you stop taking CAPTOMER 50MG

  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very Rare
  • fever or infection (sore throat, sore mouth or urinary problems)
  • unexplained bruising or bleeding
  • reduction in white blood cells and platelets (bone marrow)
  • nausea or vomiting
  • low red blood cell count (anemia)
  • loss of appetite
  • abdominal pain (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • damage to your liver (hepatic necrosis)
  • hair loss
  • blood, lymph and skin cancers
  • swelling of the face, mouth, throat, joint pain, skin rashes, high temperature (fever)
  • yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes
  • blood cancer
  • cancer of the spleen and liver (inflammatory bowel disease)
  • ulcers in the intestine (abdominal pain and bleeding)
  • low sperm count in men
