INTRODUCTION

CANESTEN SOLUTION contains Clotrimazole which belongs to the group of medicines called azole antifungal agents. It is used to treat cutaneous fungal infections such as athlete’s foot, ringworm, fungal nappy rash (in babies) and fungal sweat rash. Topically applied clotrimazole acts by blocking the biosynthesis of fungal ergosterol which leads to the disruption of fungal cell membrane and inhibition of fungal growth.

This medicine is for external use only. Do not swallow it. Your doctor will decide the duration of the therapy depending upon the type of infection. Along with the treatment, try to keep the infected area clean by washing it daily. Always wear loose-fitting clothes and try not to share your towels and bathmats with other people to avoid the spread of infection.

In case of having athlete’s foot, always try to keep your feet and toes dry. Always wash your socks and tights thoroughly in hot water. If possible, change your footwear daily. Although you may feel itching in the infected area, avoid scratching vigorously as it may damage your skin and cause the infection to spread further.

The most common side effects of applying CANESTEN SOLUTION are application site redness, swelling, itching, burning or peeling. Contact your doctor if any of the symptom bothers you. If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor for advice before using. Your doctor will decide whether you should use this medicine or not.
