INTRODUCTION

BRINOLAR contains Brinzolamide which belongs to the group of medicines called ophthalmic carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. It is used in the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma. Glaucoma (elevated intraocular pressure) is a medical condition of eye that damage the optic nerve. This damage is usually caused by an abnormally high pressure in the eyes. Brinzolamide inhibits the formation of aqueous humor by inhibiting the activity of an enzyme called carbonic anhydrase and reduces elevated intraocular pressure.

The recommended daily dosage is 1 drop in the affected eye, twice a day. Continue to use this medicine, as long as your doctor tells you to do so, to obtain better results. The most common side effect of using this medicine are blurred vision and eye irritation. Avoid traveling or driving if your vision is abnormal or blurred. Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Discuss the risk and benefits with your doctor. This medicine is generally not recommended for use in children or adolescents under 18 years of age unless prescribed by a physician. The most common side effects are blurred vision, eye irritation, itching or pain and dry eye.

USES OF BRINOLAR

  • Treat glaucoma (elevated intraocular pressure)

HOW BRINOLAR WORKS

Following ocular administration, brinzolamide is absorbed into the systemic circulation and inhibits an enzyme called carbonic anhydrase present in ciliary processes of the eye. Inhibition of carbonic anhydrase significantly decreases the secretion of aqueous humor in the eye, presumably by slowing the formation of bicarbonate ions with subsequent reduction in sodium and fluid transport. This in turn results in the reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP).

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Apply this medicine as directed by your physician. It is intended for use only in the eyes. Do not swallow or inject the medicine. The recommended daily dosage is 1 drop in the affected eye, twice a day. Wash your hands before application. Tilt your head backwards and pull your eyelids with a clean finger. Gently press the bottle and apply a drop of medicine in your eye. Repeat the process in another eye if required. Do not touch the tip of the dropper. Continue to use this medicine, as long as your doctor tells you to do so, to obtain better results.
