INTRODUCTION

BIOZOCIN XL 5MG contains Prazosin hydrochloride which belongs to a group of medicines called alpha-blockers. It is used to treat high blood pressure, mild enlargement of prostate gland in men, Raynaud's disease (fingers become white and painful when cold) and certain types of heart failure. This medicine is often used in combination with other medicines. It reduces the resistance to blood flow by relaxing muscles in the walls of blood vessels and also increase the flow of urine in patients with prostate problems by relaxing muscles in the prostate gland.

Prazosin hydrochloride blocks sympathetically mediated vasoconstriction and produces fall in blood pressure. It inhibits the postsynaptic alpha-1 adrenoceptors which blocks the vasoconstricting (narrowing) effect of epinephrine and norepinephrine on the blood vessels, leading to peripheral blood vessel dilation. BIOZOCIN XL 5MG lowers high blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels which makes the blood passes through them more easily. In heart failure, it works by relaxing the main blood vessels of the heart, allowing the heart to pump blood more easily.
