INTRODUCTION

BETNOVATE GM CREAM is a combination of Betamethasone, Gentamicin and Miconazole which belongs to the group of medicines called Corticosteroids, Antibiotics and Antifungals respectively. It is used to treat skin infections which are sensitive to steroids (steroid responsive dermatosis) associated with mixed infections.

BETNOVATE GM CREAM is not recommended for use in patients with rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, pruritus without inflammation, perianal and genital pruritus, primary cutaneous viral infections, primary infected skin lesions caused by bacterial, fungal, or yeast infections and perforated eardrum. BETNOVATE GM CREAM should be used with caution in patients with liver or kidney disease. Contact your doctor before applying.

BETNOVATE GM CREAM is generally not recommended for use in pregnancy. BETNOVATE GM CREAM is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is not known whether it may pass through the breast milk. Contact your doctor before applying.

BETNOVATE GM CREAM is not recommended for use in children under 2 years of age. Contact your doctor before applying. BETNOVATE GM CREAM should be used with caution in elderly patients who have history of renal or hepatic impairment. Contact your doctor before applying. The most common side effects of this medicine are pruritis, skin burning sensation or pain in the skin. Contact your physician if any of the above symptoms worsen.

USES OF BETNOVATE GM CREAM

  • Used for steroid responsive dermatosis associated with mixed infection

HOW BETNOVATE GM CREAM WORKS

BETNOVATE GM CREAM helps to treat infection, where Betamethasone belongs to corticosteroid which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen, and itchy. Gentamicin is an antibiotic which stops the growth of bacteria in the skin. Miconazole is an antifungal which inhibits the fungal growth. Together, treats skin infection effectively.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Apply BETNOVATE GM CREAM as directed by your physician. It is for external use only. Wash your hands with soap and water and apply a thin layer of the medicine to the affected area of the skin and rub it gently. It should not be used continuously for more than one week without re-evaluation by the physician. Avoid applying to open wounds.

SIDE EFFECTS OF BETNOVATE GM CREAM

COMMON

  • pruritus
  • skin burning sensation or pain in the skin

RARE

  • blister, dermatitis, skin irritation (including dry skin and erythema)
  • rash and skin discoloration
  • application site hypersensitivity reactions

Stop applying BETNOVATE GM CREAM and contact your physician immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • prolonged or significant diarrhoea with abdominal pain

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Itchy skin:

Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate the skin. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors. Regularly use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. Contact your doctor if itching worsens.

PREGNANCY

BETNOVATE GM CREAM is generally not recommended for use in pregnancy. Contact your doctor before applying.

BREASTFEEDING

BETNOVATE GM CREAM is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is not known whether it may pass through the breast milk. Contact your doctor before applying.

KIDNEY

BETNOVATE GM CREAM should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dosage will be adjusted in patients with reduced renal function. Contact your doctor before applying.

LIVER

BETNOVATE GM CREAM should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Contact your doctor before applying.

ALLERGY

BETNOVATE GM CREAM should be used with caution in patients with allergic (hypersensitive) history to Betamethasone, Gentamicin, Miconazole, or to other ingredients of this medicine.

OTHERS

BETNOVATE GM CREAM is not recommended for use if you have:

  • rosacea
  • acne vulgaris
  • perioral dermatitis
  • pruritus without inflammation
  • perianal and genital pruritus
  • primary cutaneous viral infections
  • primary infected skin lesions caused by bacterial, fungal, or yeast infections
  • perforated eardrum

Before applying BETNOVATE GM CREAM inform your doctor if you have:

  • psoriasis
  • infection
  • chronic leg ulcers

Use in pediatrics:

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • ritonavir (medicines used for HIV infections)
  • itraconazole (medicines used for fungal infections)
  • neuromuscular blocking agents like atracurium, doxacurium, pancuronium (medicines used in anaesthesia)
  • aminoglycosides Ex. amikacin (medicines used to treat bacterial infections)
  • warfarin, acenocoumarol (medicines used to treat or prevent blood clots)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally use too much of BETNOVATE GM CREAM, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Acute overdosage is very unlikely, however, in the case of chronic overdosage or misuse, hypercortisolism-like (rare hormonal disorder caused by over exposure to the hormone, cortisol) symptoms may occur.

No. Do not apply BETNOVATE GM CREAM for more than seven days without medical supervision. If the condition worsens or does not improve within seven days, contact your doctor.
