INTRODUCTION

BETARAX FORT TABLET contains Betamethasone, which belongs to the group of medicines called Corticosteroids. It is used to treat many different types of conditions, including asthma and severe allergic reactions, certain conditions of the blood, rheumatoid arthritis (chronic inflammatory diseases affecting the joints), autoimmune diseases (like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and polyarteritis nodosa), inflammatory conditions of the skin, kidney (like acute interstitial nephritis), bowels (like ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease) and heart, some connective tissue disorders and malignant lymphoma. BETARAX FORT TABLET also help to prevent organ transplant rejection following organ transplant surgery.

Your doctor might recommend you take relevant tests to understand your condition before starting treatment with BETARAX FORT TABLET. Avoid drinking alcohol while using BETARAX FORT TABLET as it may worsen your existing condition.

BETARAX FORT TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with an infection and who are not taking antibiotics. Before taking BETARAX FORT TABLET, inform your doctor if you have kidney, liver, heart problems, underactive thyroid gland, severe mental illness, tuberculosis, epilepsy, hypertension, pheochromocytoma, glaucoma, or diabetes.

BETARAX FORT TABLET should be used with caution among women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. BETARAX FORT TABLET should be used with caution in children, adolescents, and elderly patients. Contact your doctor if any of the above symptoms worsen. Consult with your doctor if you experience any unusual behaviors, self-harming or depression, etc. after taking BETARAX FORT TABLET.

USES OF BETARAX FORT TABLET

It is used to treat many different types of conditions including:

• Asthma
• Severe allergic reactions
• Certain conditions of the blood
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Autoimmune diseases (like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and polyarteritis nodosa)
• Inflammatory conditions of the skin, kidney (like acute interstitial nephritis), bowels (like ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease), and heart

• Prevents organ transplant rejection following an organ transplant surgery

HOW BETARAX FORT TABLET WORKS

BETARAX FORT TABLET inhibits certain chemical pathways in the body which reduces the formation of substances (arachidonic acid) that causes pain. It also enhances anti-inflammatory genes like interleukin 10. Thus, it helps in reducing pain and inflammation.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take BETARAX FORT TABLET as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine with enough water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Try to take BETARAX FORT TABLET daily at the same time. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of BETARAX FORT TABLET for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.

PREGNANCY

BETARAX FORT TABLET should be used with caution by pregnant women as it may slow down the baby’s growth or may temporarily affect baby’s body and heart movements. If you become pregnant while taking BETARAX FORT TABLET, inform your doctor and do not stop taking the medicine unless are told to do so by your doctor. Consult your doctor before taking BETARAX FORT TABLET.

BREASTFEEDING

BETARAX FORT TABLET should be used with caution by breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking BETARAX FORT TABLET.

KIDNEY

BETARAX FORT TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney diseases. Consult your doctor taking BETARAX FORT TABLET.

LIVER

BETARAX FORT TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with liver diseases. Consult your doctor before taking.

ALLERGY

Do not take BETARAX FORT TABLET if you are allergic to Betamethasone or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

HEART DISEASE

BETARAX FORT TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart diseases such as patients who had a recent heart attack. Consult your doctor taking BETARAX FORT TABLET.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking BETARAX FORT TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

• insulin or oral antidiabetic drugs (Ex. metformin, sitagliptin, glimepiride)
• medicines used to treat HIV (Ex. ritonavir, cobicistat)
• medicine used for hypertension (Ex. amlodipine, telmisartan), heart problems (Ex. digoxin), hypotension (Ex. ephedrine)
• water tablets (diuretics) used to treat fluid retention (Ex. furosemide)
• medicines used for thinning of the blood (Ex. warfarin)
• medicines used to treat pain and inflammation such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Ex. ibuprofen), salicylates (Ex. aspirin)
• medicines used to treat glaucoma (Ex. acetazolamide)
• medicines used for myasthenia gravis (Ex. pyridostigmine)
• medicines used to treat tuberculosis (Ex. rifampicin, rifabutin)
• medicines used to treat epilepsy (Ex. carbamazepine, phenytoin, primidone, phenobarbitone, aminoglutethimide)
• medicines used as oral contraceptives to prevent pregnancy (Ex. estradiol, levonorgestrel)
• medicines used to induce abortion in early pregnancy (Ex. mifepristone)
• growth hormones to treat conditions like growth failure and short stature (Ex. somatropin)
• medicines used as muscle relaxants (Ex. vecuronium)
• medicines used to treat infections (Ex. fluoroquinolones such as ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin)
• medicines used to improve symptoms of mental illnesses (Ex. quetiapine)
• medicines used to treat bad acne (Ex. tretinoin)
• medicines used to treat ulcers (Ex. carbenoxolone)
• amphotericin-B (used to treat fungal infections)
• theophylline (used to treat asthma and other allergic conditions)

Overdosage

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of BETARAX FORT TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.

What precautions should I take while taking BETARAX FORT TABLET?

While getting treated with BETARAX FORT TABLET, keep away from patients having chicken pox or shingles and even tell your doctor beforehand if you yourself had them. Contact your doctor if you feel you got in touch with someone having these as taking BETARAX FORT TABLET may worsen the condition.
