INTRODUCTION

BETAGEE 4MG contains Betamethasone which belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. It is used to treat asthma, severe allergic reactions including reactions to medicines, local inflammation of joints, tendons or the eye, severe shock due to surgery, injury or overwhelming infection. This medicine is also used as replacement for the body’s naturally occurring corticosteroid hormones when these are reduced or absent. Your doctor will administer the dose according to your health condition.

BETAGEE 4MG will be administered by your doctor or nurse. Tell your doctor if you have or had any allergic reactions, high blood pressure, epilepsy, liver, kidney or heart problems. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The most common side effects such as injection site reactions, stomach pain, and depression. Your doctor will administer the right dose depends upon your child’s age and body weight.

USES OF BETAGEE 4MG

Treats,

  • Asthma
  • severe allergic reactions including reactions to medicines
  • local inflammation of joints, tendons or the eye
  • severe shock due to surgery, injury or overwhelming infection

HOW BETAGEE 4MG WORKS

BETAGEE 4MG works by reducing the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation like redness, swelling and allergies.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

BETAGEE 4MG will be administered by your doctor or nurse. Your doctor will administer the right dose depends on your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF BETAGEE 4MG

SERIOUS

  • feeling depression
  • allergic reactions
  • skin colour changes or blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals
  • redness, warmth or swelling in your arms or legs or shortness of breath
  • feeling high (mania) or moods swings
  • anxious and sleeping difficulty
  • hallucinations
  • swelling and fluid build-up near the eyes and brain (in children)
  • increased eye pressure (glaucoma)
  • mouth and/or stomach ulcers, oesophageal ulcers
  • pain in stomach, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, loss of appetite and yellowing of your skin (jaundice)

COMMON

  • pain, swelling, redness (injection site reactions)

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

There are limited studies available on BETAGEE 4MG and hence it should be used with caution as it may cause harmful effects on the developing baby. Consult your doctor for advice.

BREASTFEEDING

BETAGEE 4MG may pass into the breast milk, it should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALCOHOL

It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with BETAGEE 4MG. Consult your doctor for advice.

KIDNEY

BETAGEE 4MG should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease, and dose may be adjusted if needed. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER

BETAGEE 4MG should be used with caution in patients with liver disease, and dose may be adjusted if needed. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY

Tell your physician if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Betamethasone.

HEART DISEASE

BETAGEE 4MG should be used with caution if you have congestive heart failure or any other heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

Tell your physician, if you have or had a condition such as,

  • severe or manic depression 
  • epilepsy (fits)
  • high blood pressure
  • tuberculosis
  • stomach or duodenal ulcers
  • inflammation of the bowel  
  • osteoporosis (thinning of the bones)
  • glaucoma
  • history of stroke
  • recently chickenpox, shingles or measles
  • underactive thyroid gland
  • diabetes
  • muscle weakness
  • infections
  • blurred vision or other visual disturbances

INTERACTIONS

Inform your doctor if you are taking,

  • ritonavir, cobicistat (used for HIV)
  • insulin and other antidiabetic medicines (treats diabetes)
  • medicines for high blood pressure
  • diuretics
  • warfarin (treats blood clot)
  • ibuprofen, aspirin (treats pain)
  • anticholinesterases
  • cardiac glycosides (treats heart problems)
  • acetazolamide (used to treat glaucoma)
  • rifampicin, rifabutin and ephedrine
  • carbamazepine, phenytoin, primidone, phenobarbitone and aminoglutethimide (treats epilepsy)
  • carbenoxolone (treats ulcer)
  • theophylline (treats breathing difficulties)
  • amphotericin b (treats fungal infections)
  • oral contraceptives (the pill)
  • mifepristone  
  • somatropin (growth hormone)
  • vecuronium and other muscle relaxants
  • fluoroquinolones (used for some infections)
  • quetiapine (improves mental illnesses)
  • tretinoin (used for acne)
