AZILURA 40MG TABLET contains Azilsartan which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-hypertensives. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). This medicine used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
High blood pressure (hypertension) is the force that a person’s blood exerts against the walls of their blood vessels. This pressure depends on the resistance of the blood vessels and how hard the heart has to work.
Along with the treatment with AZILURA 40MG TABLET your doctor might ask you to make some lifestyle changes such as exercising often, limit salt intake, managing stress, weight management and quit alcohol and smoking. Prior to the treatment your doctor might want you take some blood tests to assess your condition.
Before taking AZILURA 40MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have kidney, heart or liver disease, diabetes, primary hyperaldosteronism (disease of adrenal gland), aortic or mitral valve stenosis (narrowing of valves in heart, and obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (abnormal increase in the thickness of heart muscles).
AZILURA 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnancy and breast-feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking.
AZILURA 40MG TABLET should not be given to children and adolescents (under 18 years of age) without prior consultations.
The most common side effects are dizziness, diarrhoea, nausea, feeling tired, muscle spasms and low blood pressure. Consult your doctor if any of the above side effects worsens with time.
AZILURA 40MG TABLET helps in the treatment of high blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels and making it easier for the heart to pump blood. Azilsartan selectively inhibits angiotensin II from binding to the angiotensin II type-1 receptor (AT1). This receptor inhibition provides the antihypertensive activity of azilsartan because it blocks the pressor effects of angiotensin II. AZILURA 40MG TABLET blocks this effect which in turn lowers down the blood pressure.
Take AZILURA 40MG TABLET as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Stop taking AZILURA 40MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
Nausea or Vomiting:
Take this medicine with, or just after meals with plenty of water. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods.
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.
AZILURA 40MG TABLET is not recommended in early pregnancy and more than 3 months pregnant, as it may cause serious harm to the baby. Consult your doctor before taking.
AZILURA 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy and tired after taking AZILURA 40MG TABLET.
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking AZILURA 40MG TABLET because it might make you feel dizzier and light-headed. Consult your doctor for advice.
AZILURA 40MG TABLET is not recommended for patients with impaired kidney function. It should be taken with caution in patients who are on dialysis or had renal transplant. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
AZILURA 40MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking.
Do not take AZILURA 40MG TABLET if you are allergic to Azilsartan or to any other ingredients of this medicine.
AZILURA 40MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients having heart disease (heart failure, or recent heart attack), ever had a stroke, mitral valve stenosis (narrowing of valves in heart), obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (abnormal increase in the thickness of heart muscles). Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

What if I forget to take a dose of AZILURA 40MG TABLET?
If you forget to take a dose of AZILURA 40MG TABLET, do not take an extra dose to compensate for the forgotten dose. Take the next dose on time. Consult your doctor once.
Can AZILURA 40MG TABLET be used in children?
There is limited data for the use of AZILURA 40MG TABLET in children. Hence, it should not be given without consulting your doctor.
What precautions should be followed while taking AZILURA 40MG TABLET?
Patients taking AZILURA 40MG TABLET must inform their doctor if they have pre-existing kidney, liver or, heart disease as it can lead to severe side effects. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience any such symptoms.
Does AZILURA 40MG TABLET causes hyperkalemia (increased level of potassium in blood)?
No. AZILURA 40MG TABLET does not causes hyperkalemia. However, you must inform your doctor if you have raised levels of potassium in your blood or are on medications that causes the increase of potassium.
Can AZILURA 40MG TABLET lead to kidney problems?
Yes. AZILURA 40MG TABLET can lead to worsening of kidney problems. It is contraindicated in patients having impaired kidney function and should be used with caution in patients having kidney problems like kidney stones. Consult your doctor before taking.
Can AZILURA 40MG TABLET be stopped suddenly?
If you stop taking AZILURA 40MG TABLET, your blood pressure may rise again. Hence, you should not stop taking AZILURA 40MG TABLET before consulting your doctor.
