INTRODUCTION

AZEEL XL PEPPERMINT FLAVOUR 100MG DRY SYRUP contains Azithromycin which belongs to the group of medicines called Macrolides. It is used in children to treat infections caused by bacteria and other micro-organisms which include chest, throat, and nasal infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, sore throat and sinusitis.

It is also used to treat ear infections and skin & soft tissue infections (such as an abscess/boil) in affected children which is also indicated for use to treat sexually transmitted diseases (caused by organisms such as Chlamydia trachomatis/ Neisseria gonorrhoea) in the affected child.

AZEEL XL PEPPERMINT FLAVOUR 100MG DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use in children allergic to azithromycin, and/or other antibiotics such as erythromycin/clarithromycin (macrolides).

Before administering AZEEL XL PEPPERMINT FLAVOUR 100MG DRY SYRUP, inform your doctor if the child has diabetes, myasthenia gravis (a condition marked by weak muscles) or heart, liver, and kidney problems.

AZEEL XL PEPPERMINT FLAVOUR 100MG DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women since it is used only in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). It is also not recommended for use in elderly patients.

The most common side effects of administering AZEEL XL PEPPERMINT FLAVOUR 100MG DRY SYRUP in children are stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhoea, flatulence, dizziness, headache, skin rash, and/or itching. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms become worse in the child.

Used in paediatric patients:

• To treat ear infections such as acute otitis media and skin & soft tissue infections such as abscess/boil
• To treat sexually transmitted diseases caused by organisms such as Chlamydia trachomatis/ Neisseria gonorrhoea

AZEEL XL PEPPERMINT FLAVOUR 100MG DRY SYRUP works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis (essential for the bacteria to growth) that results in its destruction thus preventing its growth and spread of infection in affected individuals.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Administer AZEEL XL PEPPERMINT FLAVOUR 100MG DRY SYRUP in the child as advised by your physician. Shake the dry powder loose and reconstitute the dry powder in the required ml of water before consuming. After taking the suspension a bitter after-taste can be avoided by drinking fruit juice directly after swallowing. Your doctor will decide the exact dose and duration of treatment for your child depending on the child’s age, body weight and disease condition.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea/vomiting:

Have the child take this medicine with or just after a meal or a snack. Let the child stick to simple meals and avoid having rich or spicy food.

Constipation:

Ask the child to drink an adequate amount of water and include plenty of fruits and vegetables in the child’s diet. Constipation should go away after a few days followed by its administration in the child. If it persists for a longer time or becomes severe then consult your doctor.

Headache:

Ask the child to take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Headaches usually go away after the first week of administration of AZEEL XL PEPPERMINT FLAVOUR 100MG DRY SYRUP. If it lasts more than a week or becomes severe, then inform your doctor.

Diarrhoea: 

Ask the child to drink lots of fluids such as water or fruit juices so that the child is sufficiently hydrated. Do not administer any medicine to treat the condition. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve or becomes worse.

• medicines used to treat migraine (Ex. ergotamine)
• medicines used to prevent blood clots (Ex. warfarin)

• ciclosporin (used to prevent transplanted organ rejection)
• antacids (used to treat indigestion) Ex. aluminium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate
• digoxin (used to treat heart failure)
• colchicine (used for gout and familial Mediterranean fever)
• terfenadine (used for skin allergy)
• hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine (medicines used to treat malaria)

Overdosage:

If the child or anyone else accidentally take too much of AZEEL XL PEPPERMINT FLAVOUR 100MG DRY SYRUP, Consult and inform your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
