INTRODUCTION

ATM KID 100MG TABLET contains Azithromycin which belongs to the group of medicines called Macrolide antibiotics. It is used in paediatric patients to treat mild-to-moderate infections caused by susceptible strains of designated microorganisms such as acute otitis media, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, sinusitis, acute bronchitis, and community-acquired pneumonia.

It is also used to treat uncomplicated skin and soft tissues infections which is also indicated for use to treat genital infections such as urethritis and cervicitis (caused by Chlamydia trachomatis) in affected children.

ATM KID 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children allergic to azithromycin, erythromycin, and/or other macrolide/ketolide antibiotics. It is also not recommended for use in children suffering from cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction, and/or severe liver disease.

Before administering ATM KID 100MG TABLET, inform your doctor if the child has kidney, and/or heart problems.

ATM KID 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women since it is used only in children and adolescents (aged 6 months to 18 years). It is also not recommended for use in elderly patients.

The most common side effects of administering ATM KID 100MG TABLET in child are diarrhoea, stomach pain, vomiting, nausea, rash, headache, and/or altered taste sensation. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms becomes worse in the child.

USES OF ATM KID 100MG TABLET

It is used in paediatric patients:

  • To treat mild-to-moderate infections caused by susceptible strains of designated microorganisms (such as acute otitis media, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, sinusitis, acute bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia)
  • To treat uncomplicated skin and soft tissues infections
  • To treat uncomplicated genital infections such as urethritis and cervicitis (caused by Chlamydia trachomatis)

HOW ATM KID 100MG TABLET WORKS

ATM KID 100MG TABLET works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis (essential for the bacteria to growth) that results in its destruction thus preventing its growth and spread of infection in affected individuals.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Tablet:

Take ATM KID 100MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Dispersible Tablet:

Take ATM KID 100MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Disperse ATM KID 100MG TABLET in the specified quantity of water as mentioned in the label. Consume the mixture immediately after reconstitution. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF ATM KID 100MG TABLET

COMMON

  • diarrhoea, stomach pain, vomiting, nausea
  • rash
  • headache
  • altered taste sensation
  • vision impairment

UNCOMMON

  • chest pain, joint pain, back pain, muscle pain, neck pain
  • dry mouth, indigestion, constipation, anorexia (eating disorder associated with weight gain), enteritis (small intestine inflammation), flatulence, bloating, gastritis (inflammation of stomach), jaundice, oral moniliasis (fungal disease)
  • signs of decreased blood cells (anemia, leucopoenia) such as tiredness, paleness of skin, dizziness
  • decreased body movements, agitation, nervousness, sleeplessness
  • fever, swelling of face, tiredness, fungal infection, feeling of discomfort, and pain
  • signs of hypersensitivity/allergic reaction such as cough, runny nose, itchy skin, red itchy welts, wheezing, shortness of breath
  • excess cough, sore throat, pleural effusion (water lungs), stuffy nose
  • skin problems such as eczema (inflammation of skin), itchy skin, fungal skin infection, red itchy welts, sweating, rashes
  • pink eye
  • angioedema (condition marked by painless swelling under the skin)
  • decrease sensation to touch/pain
  • increased sensitivity to sunlight
  • difficulty while swallowing, shortness of breath
  • nosebleed, flushing
  • vaginal infection
  • mouth ulceration, increased salivary secretion, excessive sweating
  • discomfort while urinating, kidney pain, abnormal menstrual bleeding, testicular disorder

RARE

  • QT prolongation (heart rhythm disorder), torsades de pointes (fast heart rhythm)
  • discoloration of tongue

Stop administering ATM KID 100MG TABLET and consult your doctor immediately in case the child experiences:

  • signs of serious allergic reaction (including angioneurotic oedema, anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis dermatologic reactions) such as runny nose, low blood pressure, weak pulse, dizziness, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting
  • signs of hepatitis (inflammation of liver) such as fever, tiredness, nausea, vomiting
  • clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea
  • signs of angioedema (painless swelling under the skin) such as difficulty while breathing, swollen eyes & mouth, abdominal cramping
  • signs of cholestatic jaundice such as yellowing of skin and whites of eyes, dark urine, loss of appetite
  • serious skin reactions such as erythema multiforme, Stevens Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, DRESS (drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Diarrhea

Ask the child to drink lots of fluids such as water or fruit juices so that the child is sufficiently hydrated. Do not administer any medicine to treat the condition. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Nausea And Vomiting

Have the child take this medicine with or just after a meal or a snack. Let the child stick to simple meals and avoid having rich or spicy food.

Headache

Ask the child to take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Headaches usually go away after first week of administration of ATM KID 100MG TABLET. If it lasts more than a week or becomes severe, then inform your doctor.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

ATM KID 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women as it is used only in children.

BREASTFEEDING

ATM KID 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is used only in children.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

ATM KID 100MG TABLET is unlikely to affect ability to drive or operate machines.

KIDNEY

ATM KID 100MG TABLET should be administered with caution in children with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before administering the medicine to the child.

LIVER

ATM KID 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children suffering from cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction, and severe liver disease. It should be used with caution in children with mild to moderate impaired liver function. Consult your doctor before administering the medicine to the child.

ALLERGY

Do not administer ATM KID 100MG TABLET if the child is allergic to azithromycin, erythromycin, other macrolide/ketolide antibiotics, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.

HEART DISEASE

ATM KID 100MG TABLET should be administered with caution in children with heart problems.  Consult your doctor before administering the medicine to the child.

OTHERS

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking ATM KID 100MG TABLET, inform your doctor if your child is taking any of the following medicine:

  • efavirenz, nelfinavir, didanosine, indinavir, Nelfinavir (medicines used in the treatment of HIV)
  • fluconazole (used to treat fungal infection)
  • atorvastatin (used to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood)
  • carbamazepine (used to treat epilepsy and nerve pain)
  • cetirizine (used to treat allergic symptoms, hay fever, conjunctivitis)
  • midazolam (used to produce sleepiness/drowsiness and relieve anxiety before surgery)
  • rifabutin (used to prevent/slow the spread of Mycobacterium avium complex disease)
  • sildenafil (used to treat erectile dysfunction)
  • theophylline (used to treat symptoms of asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, and other lung diseases)
  • triazolam (to treat insomnia)
  • trimethoprim. sulfamethoxazole (used to treat and prevent urinary tract infections)
  • zidovudine (used to slow progression of disease in patients infected with HIV)
  • ergotamine (medicine used to treat migraine)
  • antacids (used to treat indigestion) Ex. aluminium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate
  • digoxin (used to treat heart failure)
  • cisapride (used to treat heartburn in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease)
  • cimetidine (used to treat ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease)
  • warfarin (medicine used to prevent blood clots)
  • methylprednisolone (used to treat conditions such as arthritis, blood disorders, severe allergic reactions, certain cancers, eye conditions)
  • terfenadine (used to treat allergy symptoms)
  • ciclosporin (used to prevent transplanted organ rejection)
  • terfenadine (used for skin allergy)
  • pimozide (used to reduce uncontrolled movements)
  • citalopram (used to treat depression)

Overdosage:

If the child or anyone else accidentally take too much of ATM KID 100MG TABLET, consult and inform your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose includes reversible loss of hearing, severe nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
