DIOFLOX TABLET contains Ofloxacin, which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to treat and prevent various bacterial infections involving the respiratory system, urinary system (kidneys and bladder), both male and female genital organs (such as gonorrhoea), ears, nose, skin and soft tissues. Bacterial infections are generally characterized by fever, extreme tiredness, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, groin or elsewhere, headache, nausea or vomiting.
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking DIOFLOX TABLET, as it can make you feel dizzy or sleepy. Before recommending DIOFLOX TABLET your doctor may advise you to take relevant tests to understand your condition.
DIOFLOX TABLET is not recommended for use if you have fits or ever had swollen tendons. Before taking DIOFLOX TABLET, inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney, heart, mental health problems, myasthenia gravis or diabetes. DIOFLOX TABLET is not recommended for use by pregnant and breastfeeding women, children or adolescents (less than 18 years old). Consult your doctor before taking DIOFLOX TABLET.
The most common side effects of taking DIOFLOX TABLET are sleep problems, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, itching, external genital itching (women), vaginal inflammation and taste changes. Contact your doctor if any of your symptoms get worse or persist.
DIOFLOX TABLET works by binding to and inhibiting bacterial enzymes required in DNA synthesis, thus interrupting DNA replication and preventing bacterial cell multiplication.
Take DIOFLOX TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking DIOFLOX TABLET unless your doctor advises you to stop.
Stop taking DIOFLOX TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
Nausea:
Take DIOFLOX TABLET with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. If your symptom gets worse or persist, consult your doctor immediately.
Vomiting:
Get adequate rest. Drink lots of fluids, especially water. Have small sips if you feel sick. Eat when you feel like it – you do not need to eat or avoid any specific foods. Do not take medicines on your own to treat vomiting without consulting your doctor. If your symptom gets worse or persist, consult your doctor immediately.
Headache:
Drink an ample amount of water. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress-free. Do not take medicines on your own to treat a headache without consulting your doctor. If your symptom gets worse or persist, consult your doctor immediately.
Dizziness:
Lie down until the dizziness subsides, then get up slowly. Move slowly and carefully, do not hurry. Get adequate rest. Drink plenty of water and other fluids. Avoid coffee, cigarettes, alcohol and drugs. If your symptom gets worse or persist, consult your doctor immediately.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lots of fluids, like water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take medicines on your own to treat diarrhoea without consulting your doctor. If your symptom gets worse or persist, consult your doctor immediately.
Skin itching:
Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. If your symptom gets worse or persist, consult your doctor immediately.
DIOFLOX TABLET is not recommended for use by pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking it.
DIOFLOX TABLET is not recommended for use by breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Do not drive or operate any machines if you experience sleepiness, dizziness or problems with your eyesight after taking DIOFLOX TABLET.
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking DIOFLOX TABLET as it might make you feel dizzy or sleepy.
DIOFLOX TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.
DIOFLOX TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Do not take DIOFLOX TABLET if you are allergic to Ofloxacin or any of the other ingredients in this medicine or previously had an allergic reaction to any quinolone antibiotic.
DIOFLOX TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart disease or problems with a heartbeat, aortic aneurism (an enlarged or bulged large blood vessel), aortic dissection (tear in the aortic wall) or family history of it, vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, vascular disorders like Takayasu arteritis, giant cell arteritis, Behcet’s disease, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, endocarditis, prolonged QT interval, very slow heart rhythm, a weak heart or a history of a heart attack. Consult your doctor before taking DIOFLOX TABLET.

Can DIOFLOX TABLET treat typhoid?
According to some studies, DIOFLOX TABLET can be used to treat typhoid in adults who are infected with S. typhi resistant to other medicines like chloramphenicol, ampicillin and cotrimoxazole. However, consult your doctor before taking DIOFLOX TABLET.
Can DIOFLOX TABLET make me feel suicidal?
DIOFLOX TABLET might come with a risk of suicidal thoughts or actions. If at any time you have this kind of thought, immediately contact your doctor or go to the nearby hospital.
Can DIOFLOX TABLET cause itching?
Yes. DIOFLOX TABLET may cause itching along with rashes. In such cases, avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult your doctor if your symptom does not improve.
Can DIOFLOX TABLET be taken by children?
No. DIOFLOX TABLET is used for adults and is not recommended for children and adolescents below 18 years of age. Your doctor will decide the correct dose or select a suitable alternative therapy for your child.
What if I forget to take a dose of DIOFLOX TABLET?
If you forget to take a dose of DIOFLOX TABLET, take it as soon as you remember. However, omit the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not take the medicine twice to make up for the missed dose.
Can DIOFLOX TABLET be stopped?
Continue taking DIOFLOX TABLET until your doctor tells you to stop, unless you experience any unwanted effects, worsening of your condition or any new symptoms. In such a case, contact your doctor right away. Do not stop taking DIOFLOX TABLET just because you feel better. If you do so, your infection may get worse again.
Can DIOFLOX TABLET be taken in pregnancy?
DIOFLOX TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnancy. If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or are planning to get pregnant, consult your doctor before taking this medicine. Inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment with DIOFLOX TABLET.
Can DIOFLOX TABLET be crushed?
No. DIOFLOX TABLET should not be broken, crushed or chewed. Simply swallow it as a whole with a glass of water.
Can I take other medicines with DIOFLOX TABLET?
Before taking DIOFLOX TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking, have taken or might take any other medicine, including prescription, non-prescription or any herbal medicine, as these might interact with each other and cause serious side effects.
