INTRODUCTION
ARTACIL 50MG INJECTION contains Atracurium which belongs to the group of medicines called Muscle relaxants. It relaxes your muscles and keeps your body still (immobile) during a surgery. It also relaxes the airway muscles which help in artificial breathing and in facilitating easy insertion of breathing tubes into the airways.
Before receiving ARTACIL 50MG INJECTION inform your doctor if you have any heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have a history of asthma or allergic conditions, any nerve or muscle disorders, electrolyte imbalance or if you are severely dehydrated.
ARTACIL 50MG INJECTION should be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women only if it is considered necessary by the physician. However, it may be used during a caesarean section in pregnant women under close supervision.
ARTACIL 50MG INJECTION may cause difficulty in breathing which is due to relaxation of muscle involved in breathing. In such cases, your doctor might provide you with additional ventilation support until the effect of ARTACIL 50MG INJECTION wears off.
Other most common side effects of receiving ARTACIL 50MG INJECTION are pain or irritation at the site of injection, slow of fast heart rate, low or high blood pressure and flushing of skin. Inform your doctor if any of these symptoms worsen.

HOW ARTACIL 50MG INJECTION WORKS
ARTACIL 50MG INJECTION is a muscle relaxant. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve signals from the nerve fibers to the muscles. As a result, it causes muscle relaxation and help you stay immobile during surgeries. ARTACIL 50MG INJECTION can also relax the airway muscles which helps in easy insertion of breathing tubes into the airways and in artificial breathing.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
ARTACIL 50MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the vein (intravenously) under close monitoring. Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your age, body weight and health condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF ARTACIL 50MG INJECTION
COMMON
- slow or very fast heartbeat
- changes in blood pressure (low or high)
- difficulty in breathing
- flushing
- pain, itching or irritation at the site of injection
- redness or itchy rashes of the skin
RARE
- bronchospasm (tightness of airway muscles)

PREGNANCY

BREASTFEEDING

ALLERGY

USE IN GERIATRICS
Use with CautionARTACIL 50MG INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before receiving it.
OTHERS
Before receiving ARTACIL 50MG INJECTION, inform your physician if you:
- have problems in blood circulation
- have a history of allergic reactions
- have nerve or muscle disorder (such as myasthenia gravis, poliomyelitis, Eaton-Lambert syndrome etc.)
- have severe electrolyte disorders (abnormal levels of sodium, potassium and chloride in blood)
- are suffering from burns
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before receiving ARTACIL 50MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- lithium (a medicine used to treat bipolar disorder)
- quinine (a medicine used to treat malaria)
- neomycin, streptomycin, kanamycin, gentamicin, lincosamide and polypeptide antibiotics, acylamino-penicillin antibiotics, and dihydrostreptomycin (used to treat bacterial infection)
- medicines used to treat irregular heartbeat (such as quinidine, amiodarone, propafenone, lidocaine, procainamide, digoxin)
- phenytoin, carbamazepine and thiopental (used to treat fits and seizures)
- diuretics (used to improve urine output) Ex. furosemide, chlorothiazide, acetazolamide
- medicines used to treat heart problems (such as propranolol, diltiazem, nifedipine, nicardipine, oxprenolol, trimetaphan, hexamethonium and verapamil)
- medicines used to treat rheumatism (such as chloroquine, d-penicillamine)
- corticosteroids (used to treat pain and inflammation) such as prednisolone, methylprednisolone
- anesthetics (medicines that causes loss of consciousness) such as isoflurane, desflurane, sevoflurane and enflurane, halothane, ketamine
- dantrolene (a muscle relaxant)
- magnesium sulphate (used to treat abnormally high blood pressure in pregnant women)
- chlorpromazine (a medicine used to treat psychiatric disorders)
Overdosage:
ARTACIL 50MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms.
