INTRODUCTION
ARCONYX MR TABLET is a combination of Etoricoxib and Thiocolchicoside which belongs to the group of medicines called Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) and Muscle relaxants. It is used to reduce pain and swelling in the joints and muscles in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout and muscle spasm. This medicine is also used for the short-term treatment after dental surgery for moderate pain.
Muscle spasm is the rapid spontaneous contractions of the muscle, which can be painful and uncomfortable. When the nerve impulses are damaged or interrupted that control muscle movement, it could lead to muscle spasms. Symptoms include muscle tightness, joint stiffness, unusual posture, difficulty in moving and pain in affected muscles and joints.
ARCONYX MR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having inflammatory bowel disease, severe congestive heart failure, peptic ulcer or cerebrovascular disease. Consult your doctor for advice.
Before taking ARCONYX MR TABLET, inform your doctor if you have blood disorders, kidney problems, liver problems or heart problems.
ARCONYX MR TABLET is not recommended to use among pregnant and breastfeeding women. The most common side effects of this medicine are stomach pain, dry socket, edema, dizziness, headache, palpitations, arrhythmia, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, gastritis, nausea and vomiting. Consult your doctor if the above side effects worsens or persist for a longer duration.
USES OF ARCONYX MR TABLET
- Used to reduce pain, swelling in the joints and muscles in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout and muscle spasm
HOW ARCONYX MR TABLET WORKS
ARCONYX MR TABLET reduces pain and swelling in the joints and muscles, whereas Etoricoxib works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause pain and inflammation and Thiocolchicoside works on the centers in the brain and spinal cord to relieve muscle stiffness or spasm and improves pain and movement of muscles.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take ARCONYX MR TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF ARCONYX MR TABLET
COMMON
- stomach pain
- dry socket (inflammation and pain in teeth after tooth extraction)
- edema
- dizziness
- headache
- palpitations (uneven or fast heartbeat), uneven heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
- increase in blood pressure
- wheezing or shortness of breath
- constipation
- gastritis (inflammation of the lining of the stomach)
- wind (excessive gas)
- diarrhea
- heartburn, indigestion
- nausea, vomiting
- inflammation of the esophagus
- mouth ulcers
- changes in blood tests
- bruising
- weakness and fatigue, flu-like illness
- drowsiness
UNCOMMON
- anorexia
- unusual dark urine
- itching
- fever and fatigue
RARE
- confusion, restlessness
- liver problems (hepatitis)
- low blood levels of sodium
- liver failure
- severe skin reactions
- urticaria
Stop taking ARCONYX MR TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience the following side effects:
- shortness of breath, chest pain, ankle swelling
- yellowing of the skin and eyes
- severe or continual stomach pain or stools become black
- allergic reaction (symptoms include ulcers or blistering, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat which may cause difficulty in breathing)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea or Vomiting:
Take this medicine with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor for advice if you experience nausea for a long time.
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fiber-rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.
Diarrhea:
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.
Loss of appetite:
Eat when you are hungry. Eat smaller meals more often than usual. Snack only when you're hungry. Eat a nutritious snack that is rich in calories and protein, such as dried fruit and nuts.

PREGNANCY
ARCONYX MR TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor for advice.
BREASTFEEDING
ARCONYX MR TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor for advice.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines if you experience dizziness or sleepiness. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking this medicine because it can aggravate your existing condition.
KIDNEY
ARCONYX MR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having severe kidney disease. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
ARCONYX MR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having severe liver problems. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Do not take ARCONYX MR TABLET if you are allergic to Etoricoxib, Thiocolchicoside or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
HEART DISEASE
ARCONYX MR TABLET is not recommended for use if you have or had high blood pressure that has not been controlled by treatment, heart problems (heart failure), angina (chest pain), heart attack or bypass surgery. It should be used with caution if you have any mild to moderate heart problems. Consult your doctor for advice.
OTHERS
ARCONYX MR TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have stomach ulcer or bleeding in the stomach or intestines
- Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative colitis, or Colitis (inflammatory bowel disease)
- any kind of stroke, and muscles problems
- peripheral arterial disease
Tell your physician before taking this medicine if you:
- had dehydration (a prolonged bout of vomiting or diarrhea)
- had swelling due to fluid retention
- have being treated for an infection
- have high cholesterol, diabetes
- are a smoker
- have epilepsy
Use in pediatrics:
ARCONYX MR TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (below 16 years of age). Consult your doctor before taking it.
Use in geriatrics:
ARCONYX MR TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Consult your doctor before taking it.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Inform to your physician, if you are taking,
- medicines used to thin blood (Ex. warfarin)
- medicines used to treat infections (Ex. rifampicin)
- medicine used for suppressing the immune system, and often used in rheumatoid arthritis (Ex. methotrexate, ciclosporin, or tacrolimus)
- medicine used to treat depression (Ex. lithium)
- medicines used to control high blood pressure and heart failure (Ex. enalapril, ramipril, losartan, valsartan)
- medicine used as diuretics
- medicine used to treat heart failure and irregular heart rhythm (Ex. digoxin)
- medicine used to treat asthma (Ex. salbutamol)
- birth control pills
- hormone replacement therapy
- medicine used to relieve pain and reduce the risk of serious problems like heart attacks and strokes (Ex. aspirin)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally took too much of this medicine, consult your doctor immediately.
