What is AMLODAC CH Tablet used for?

AMLODAC CH Tablet is used in the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure)

AMLODAC CH Tablet may also be prescribed for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How does AMLODAC CH Tablet work?

  • Amlodipine Besylate belongs to a group of medicines known as calcium channel blockers. Amlodipine Besylate prevents the calcium from moving into the blood vessel wall thereby preventing tightening of blood vessel walls. This reduces the blood pressure and improves symptoms of chest pain.
  • Chlorthalidone belongs to group of medicines called thiazide-like diuretics. Diuretics are medications which cause increase water removal from body as urine. Chlorthalidone removes excess sodium, chloride and water by kidney, thereby reducing the blood pressure. Chlorthalidone has a long term and more effective action on reduction of blood pressure than other thiazide and thiazide-like diuretics.

AMLODAC CH Tablet act additively to reduce the blood pressure.

How to take AMLODAC CH Tablet?

  • The dosage of oral tablets of AMLODAC CH Tablet depends on the age, weight and medical condition of an individual. Take AMLODAC CH Tablet as prescribed by your doctor.
  • You must swallow the tablet with a glass of water. Do not chew the tablet.
  • Take your daily dose at same time (preferably at breakfast).
  • Do not take the tablet with grapefruit juice (it can lead to increase in amlodipine concentration which would increase the lowering of the blood pressure).
  • AMLODAC CH Tablet is not recommended for children and adolescent under 18 years of age.
  • Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor.
  • If you miss a dose of AMLODAC CH Tablet, please take it immediately once you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

Symptoms of overdose of Amlodipine Besylate may include the following:

  • Dizziness
  • Light headedness
  • Fainting, weakness
  • Cool and clammy skin
  • Hypotension (low blood pressure)
  • Loss of consciousness

Symptoms of overdose of Chlorthalidone may include the following:

  • Dehydration
  • Diarrhoea or constipation, abdominal pain
  • Dizziness, fainting
  • Electrolyte imbalance (hypokalaemia (low levels of potassium in blood), hypochloraemia (low levels of chloride ions in blood), hyponatremia (low levels of sodium in the blood)
  • Lethargy
  • Nausea
  • Weakness

  • Cyclosporin, Tacrolimus

What are the side effects of AMLODAC CH Tablet?

Most common side effects of AMLODAC CH Tablet are:

  • Weakness, pain, fatigue, malaise
  • Headache, dizziness, vertigo, nervousness, depression
  • Increased muscle tone, decreased sensations
  • Anxiety
  • Low blood pressure, fainting, palpitation, irregular rhythm, increased heart rate, chest pain, heart attack
  • Dry mouth, thirst, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea or constipation, passing of gas, weight changes
  • Increased sweating, skin discolouration
  • Muscle cramps, back pain, pain in joints
  • Abnormal vision

  • severe light-headedness or fainting;
  • angioneurotic oedema (red, burning, itching areas on skin near eyes, lips, hands, feet and inside of throat, hoarseness of voice, difficulty in breathing);
  • low levels of serum potassium;
  • severe skin allergies such as blisters on skin, mouth, lips, eyes and genitals (commonly called Steven Johnsons syndrome).
