What is Amlodipine Besylate used for?

Amlodipine Besylate is used to treat the following conditions:

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure);
  • Angina (chest pain and other conditions caused by coronary artery disease (damage or disease of major heart vessels).

It is used in combination with other antibiotics.

Amlodipine Besylate may also be prescribed for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How does Amlodipine Besylate work?

Amlodipine Besylate belongs to a group of medicines known as calcium channel blockers. Amlodipine Besylate prevents the calcium from moving into the blood vessel wall thereby preventing tightening of blood vessel walls. This reduces the blood pressure and improves symptoms of chest pain.

How to take Amlodipine Besylate ?

  • The dosage of oral tablet of Amlodipine Besylate depends on the age, weight and medical condition of an individual. Take Amlodipine Besylate as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Amlodipine Besylate is started with one per day, later the dose can change depending on the condition of the patient.
  • Amlodipine Besylate should be taken with or without food. Take the medicine at the same time of the day.
  • Amlodipine Besylate is not advised to be taken by children below 6 years of age.
