What is ALTRIS Gel used for?

ALTRIS Gel is used to treat general insomnia and jet lag. It is also used to adjust sleep-wake cycle in people with shift-work disorder and help blind people to establish a day and night cycle.

ALTRIS Gel may also be prescribed for other conditions as determined by the doctor.

How does ALTRIS Gel work?

ALTRIS Gel belongs to the class of drugs called hormonal agents. Low levels of melatonin hormone in the body may cause trouble sleeping. ALTRIS Gel supplement acts by transferring signals to the melatonin receptor agonist in the brain and other parts of the body to control and maintain sleep-wake cycles.

How to take ALTRIS Gel?

The dosage and the drug form depend on the age, weight and medical condition of an individual. Take ALTRIS Gel as prescribed by your doctor.

Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush or chew the tablet. Take the drug with or without food. However, taking the drug with food prevents stomach upset.

Use of ALTRIS Gel for Jet Lag:

  • If you are traveling towards the east, you must take ALTRIS Gel after dark and 30 minutes before bed time. Then, you must continue this for at least 4 nights in the new time zone.
  • If you are traveling towards the west, a dose is not required for the first traveling night. You must take the drug 30 minutes before bed time for the next 4 nights.
