What is ALFACAL?

  • ALFACAL contains Alfacalcidol (vitamin D3 ) which is a vitamin D analogue
  • Vitamin D controls the levels of calcium and phosphate in your body (both of which are required for healthy bones and teeth). It works by increasing the amount of vitamin D in your body, which in turn increases the levels of calcium and phosphate

What ALFACAL is used for?

ALFACAL is used to treat diseases such as:

  • Changes in bone caused by kidney failure (osteodystrophy)
  • Changes to your parathyroid glands (hyperparathyroidism or hypoparathyroidism)
  • Low levels of calcium in the blood of newborn babies (hypocalcemia)
  • Softening and deformity of the bones due to lack of calcium (rickets or osteomalacia)
