Pimples or acne is a common skin problem among teenagers and it is caused due to skin clogging by an oily substance known as sebum. These pimples mainly appear on face, neck, chest, and shoulders.Pimples In Teenagers

Though pimples or acne do not impose any health-related risks, they can be bothersome. In few cases, they may leave scars affecting the self-esteem of teenagers and may also appear in the form of blackheads, whiteheads, pustules, or cysts.

It is believed that hormones too play a significant role in causing acne. During puberty, the androgen hormone increases in both boys and girls and it expands the oil glands of skin along with increased sebum production.

Genetics, certain medications, and cosmetics can develop pimples and they can become worse with squeezing, harsh rubbing, change in the hormonal levels of teenage girls during periods, or stress.

Dermatologists may provide a treatment based on the severity of the problem. Medications that control oil production with antibacterial properties may be recommended. Hormonal therapy can help in controlling pimples.

Besides treatment, precautions like drinking more water, avoiding deep fried foods, washing face twice a day with mild soap and warm water help in avoiding acne.
