Kidney is a powerful organ that perform many important bodily functions. Kidney disease is a common problem that affects more than 10% of the world’s population. Kidneys are responsible for filtering waste, hormone balance, regulating blood pressure and maintaining the fluid balance. Diabetes, hypertension, obesity, smoking and genetics are the common risk factor of kidney disease. A low salt diet is generally recommended (less than 2000mg of sodium), adequate fluid intake, controlling blood pressure and diabetes, quit smoking and avoid taking over the counter medications to keep your kidneys healthy.
