How Nitroglycerin works

Nitroglycerin causes relaxation of smooth muscles within blood vessels which leads to relaxation and widening of blood vessels. This improves blood supply to the heart muscles. As a result, it helps to relieve chest pain and blood pressure.

  • spinning sensation
  • fall in blood pressure when seated or standing up
  • dizziness, drowsiness

  • In case of accidental overdosage
  • If you experience worsening of angina symptoms such as chest pain
  • If you experience signs of hypoxaemia (low levels of oxygen in blood) (difficulty breathing, increased rate of breathing)
  • If you experience signs of methemoglobinemia (breathing problems, tiredness, headache)
  • If you experience difficulty breathing, bluish discolouration of the lips, fingers or toes (cyanosis)
  • If you experience rapid or slowed heartbeat
  • If you experience blindness in one eye
  • If you experience cerebral ischaemia (impaired blood flow to brain) which may cause weakness in one leg or arm, or weakness in one entire side of the body
  • If you experience difficulty speaking, slurred speech
  • If you experience loss of coordination
  • If you experience allergic skin reactions
