Gall bladder stones or cholecystitis are pieces of solid matter in the gall bladder. Gallstones block the bile duct causing sharp pain in the upper abdomen and it is usually the first symptom. Other symptoms include nausea, vomiting and difficulty in digestion. Diagnosis is done with the help of blood tests, ultrasound and CT scan. While gallstones can be removed both by surgery and medication, surgery is preferred as it provides instant relief. A laparoscopy procedure is simple, and the patient can go home the same day.
