If kidneys fail to function efficiently, high levels of uric acid is found in the urine. If uric acid levels are too high, it causes Hyperuricemia, a risk factor for both gout and kidney disease. Food items high in purines cause elevated levels of uric acid that accumulates in the joints causing inflammation, breakdown of joint cartilage and certain types of kidney stones.
