Cavities, also called as tooth decay is a hole that forms in your tooth. These holes that start small can gradually become deeper and bigger if left untreated. Symptoms include tooth sensitivity, pain, a visible hole, black or white staining on your teeth. Plaque, the sticky substance and a combination of bacteria, saliva, acid and food particles cause tooth cavities. Plaque starts forming soon after consuming any food item even drinks that are sugary. Regular brushing is important in cleaning plaque as it sticks to the teeth and slowly erodes tooth enamel. After a thorough oral exam, your dentist would decide on the treatment.
