Gum diseases are of various types. Periodontitis commonly known as Pyorrhea is inflammation of gums and supporting structures of the teeth. There are two stages of periodontitis: gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis affects only soft tissues of the gums and early diagnosis is required to prevent periodontitis. Gingivitis is caused due to improper brushing, smoking, intake of alcohol, lack of sleep, improper diet and vitamin C deficiency. Periodontitis is the advanced stage which can also affect the bone structures supporting the teeth. Symptoms include swollen, bleeding and receding gums.
