Known as the sunshine vitamin, Vitamin D is produced by the body in response to the skin exposed to the sunlight. Vitamin D plays a crucial role in body functions. It helps bones in absorbing calcium from diet for strength besides maintaining calcium, phosphorous balance, elevates mood, boosting brain function and general wellbeing. This vitamin deficiency is usually found in people living in colder areas, obese as fat cells absorb more vitamin D leaving very little for the bones.
